Baldur's Gate for Positive User Reviews

Classic RPGSmall bugs by no means detract from this being one of the most in-depth games available on iOS great great game. I will add to the chorus of reviewers that hope baldurs gate 2 will be released soon. If your thinking of getting this game don't think just download it.Version: 1.0.2007

ExcellentNot a game for the run around and shoot everything fan. This is a really good Dungeons and Dragons game for the iPad. If you don't know or like D & D then don't buy this game. It requires patience and thought, but the reward is immense. Hour upon hour of nostalgic, nerdy fun! I'm in heaven having given up hope of finding this type of game in this age of predictable shoot em ups..Version: 1.3.1

5 stars foreverI’ll never know why this game is rated as low as it is it’s probably the best game on mobile for the fact the phone doesn’t play it for you and you actually have to put physical input and thinking into what you are doing and know how to make a character properly the first couple of runs if you don’t know D&D basics very well will probably be trial and error and the game might be hard but I feel that’s what makes it fun that being said there is a new feature where the mage class auto targets and cast his spells by himself I don’t like it absolutely hate it tryed to turn it off and can’t stop making my games play by themselves please I bought this one specifically because it didn’t then it got changed.Version: 2.5.17

Great game, blast from the pastProbably the best tenner you’ll spend on an ipad game. Dropped a star because it really does need a delete button for exported characters and more saves spaces..Version: 2.5.17

What the iPad was made forThe previous version was a little buggy but the update has made this game by far the best app in the App Store. Gameplay is smoother and less fiddley. You can see what each spell or item is by tapping and holding for a second, and your characters level up you learn more about the game, as any game worth investing time should allow you to do. If you're looking for a quick fix, no thought game, this isn't for you. If you're looking for a game to take over your life, get under your skin and change the way you think about using your iPad, click the buy now button. If I had a wish list however, it would be a short one. 1) Custom portraits, if it can be done, then it really must be part of an update in the very near future. 2) easier multiplayer. It's passable at the moment if you know your IP addresses (which are easy to find), but a slicker experience here would make the whole game feel a lot more accessible and add another dimension to the game play. 3) less memory requirement when downloading or updating, you need a lot of free space to get it too fit. The Black Pits is a good addition to the game as it does give you a bit of that quick fix "how do I kill 5 minutes" side and gives you a chance to test your battle strategies. All I can say in summary is this; buy it. If you don't have an iPad, buy one and then load this onto it, you'll not need anything else..Version: 1.0.2012

So well done.Great to be able to replay such a great game..Version: 1.3.1

Better Than ExpectedI played this on my PC years ago and LOVED it. As my PC won't support this game, or IWD, or BG2 anymore, I was excited when this hit the app world. I was skeptical at first and waited for the bugs to get fixed. This EE version of BG1 is FANTASTIC!! All the old Easter eggs are present, new features that I love, e.g. the potion and scroll cases (still looking for gem bag). I'm really enjoying this. Easy purchase for the $. If you played the PC version and have an iPad, get this! I haven't tried the phone version, yet. Might be too small, even for the 6+..Version: 1.3.1

Great game, hard gameGreat game, MAKE SURE you get baulders gate 1 and not the 2 or 3rd as its a continuation of the story scaled to higher lvs, not a better version. in the starting area before you leave theres a shopkeeper in the north of the villige. and for making your character only certain races can use specific classes, try a different race if you want to be something else ( human can be most any class.) reroll stats a few times to get some good stats for your first playthrough. You will die alot, this is an old pc game, and as such its a steep learning curve. And a biggy is to remember that all the xp you get is split between your party so dont just recruit everyone you find, as youll have trouble leveling your main characters. (Get a healer) ~And above all ——REST to recover health/ spells often——.Version: 2.5.17

So much nerdy goodnessI'm really having a blast with this one. Hours and hours of gameplay for a really good price! Plus the game tells an engaging story. That said, it takes strategy. Pretty much every level is defeatable if the player takes time to think about how to go about it. It isn't. A good idea to just go in and try to grind your way through a level, which is why I suspect some people may be frustrated. Pause, think, and act. It's so good to be back in the Forgotten Realms!.Version: 1.3.1

Unpolished DiamondI just want to encourage the creators to keep updating this game and working out all the kinks. This is a really enjoyable game that sometimes gets overshadowed by the occasional bug or control issue. Despite these issues I keep playing it and looking forward to see where the story goes. Keep up the great work guys, your efforts are appreciated..Version: 1.0.2007

Major update is awsomeThe Game App has recently been given a major update recently, with some considerable TLC given to the interface. The interface has all kinds of quality of life enhancements, and the navigation is much easier. A few bugs I’ve noticed in the past seem to have been fixed, and the AI scripts are working properly, with full customizability available now. I’m very impressed that the developer has put this much work into a game they released so many years ago, thanks!.Version: 2.4.71

Love it!I’ve played this game on computer for years.... now I have it on tablet and phone! I love playing on my own AND playing with my friends!.Version: 2.5.17

Great game,The re-makers of this game did a great job bringing back the feel and familiarity that made BG1 popular. A touch-screen port to iPad appears mostly seamless. It's a fun game that preserves the original game quality with a lot of potential for replayability and exploration of development details. The game has a few minor bugs or unintended consequences (what game doesn't, if you spend enough time playing it) but overall they did a good job fixing some of the old bugs that the original was prone to. There are some opportunities to add some labels to the screen to help players with non-intuitive aspects. In the original game you had a mouse and the cursor would change when waving the mouse over dynamic aspects on the screen, thus prompting the player to realize something could be interacted with. However the touchscreen port means there is no cursor and thus some of the on-screen interaction is not clearly identified. (Remember developers: some players may be purchasing for the first time and don't have prior experience playing the original, so don't assume too much that every player will have sufficient knowledge to figure out how the game was intended to be solved) Overall: great game.Version: 1.3.1

A real gameAs others have noted there are a few minor issues with this title, however as we all know we need more real games on the App Store. This qualifies. The developers aught to be applauded for thinking of iOS users instead of just remaking it for PC and leaving it at that. I for one hope this title is as successful as it deserves to be..Version: 1.0.2007

????"Amazing game. Brings me back to when I played it years ago. Even on an iPhone 4S the graphics are fine and legible contrary to other reviews. Only annoying thing is for no reason the side bars disappear and I thought I could get around this by saving regularity and reloading when they were there... NOT THE CASE!! They have disappeared in all my saved games making the game unplayable. Which is frustrating as I bought some IAP and have put a lot of time in and now is genuinely unplayable. Developers please fix this asap and it will get a 5 star rating. Was ecstatic at first and now exceptionally frustrated." Wrote the above before I realised that for the sidebar issue all you have to do is the "3 Finger Zoom" on all iPhones and then you can actually get side bars to reappear. Anyone who gave less than 5* due to this issue should really re-review with 5* apologising to developers. Amazing game, wish BG2 was available on iPhone. Apologies to developers for stupidity of my last 1* review and glad I saw the light and fixed it. Anyone who is in 2 minds about the price tag, bite that this is a full rpg game that would have cost PC players a price way more than £6.99..Version: 1.3

Baldur's gateI love this game!!!.Version: 1.3.1

I’ve heard it’s a good gameJust waiting for the current gen update to drop other than that no complaints.Version: 2.5.17

Easily best RPGSI loved playing this game as a teenager. When my brother bought this game home for the first time it blew my mind. I didn't know they made games like this or even this good. Since then I have been mad on fantasy fiction and dungeons and dragons. Definitely must have series. Also wouldn't mind seeing icewind dale on the ipad either and Temple of elemental evil. Never got to play the last as I couldn't get the game working. Wish they would go back to making the games like this and just expanding the series some how..Version: 1.2

The best D&D game to this dayDon't play this on a phone and don't expect any hand holding. I see too many 1 star reviewers whining because the game doesn't spoon feed them information. The game works better than expected on iPad, coming from someone who has played BG since its release in '99 at the age of 6. My biggest complaint so far is that the selection circles aren't circular for some reason and look hand drawn in a bad way. Cross-platform multiplayer blows me away. While this was clearly meant for fans of the original, I'm disappointed at the reactions of new players who expect it to follow modern gaming trends. This game and the sequel are immensely rewarding if you invest yourself in the story and in learning the 2nd Edition AD&D mechanics..Version: 1.3.1

Excellent portExcellent port to iPad. All the features of the great game plus some. Biggest thing for me is that there are no long start up times, CD changes etc to play. I can just pick up and play. Cannot wait for BG2. For those of you not played this sort of game before. Take your time it is worth it..Version: 1.0.2007

Awesome Port! iPhone 4SClassic RPG in the palm of your hands. Extremely entertaining, and overall good port. Be sure to increase the font size for better experience, and set the pause settings to however you like. One problem is when trying to tap the top character portrait, you may close the hero panel and won't be able to reopen. Save frequently! Otherwise, it's a great game and works well on iPhone..Version: 1.3.1

The nostalgia is realAll the glory of the old BG game. Played this game growing up and it is everything I remember. Still super difficult yet fair. Controls took a little bit to get used to but generally very friendly controls and pausing. If you are a fan on these kinds of games, this one one of the originals and one of the best ever made. Best app purchase I have made! Shadowdancer for life!.Version: 1.3.1

SuperlativeA startling achievement, all involved should be extremely proud. This is a magnificent game, to be tempted along hour after hour by a wide variation of the purest dungeon and dragon themed quests, fills each game load with excitement and unadulterated enjoyment. This game is all about sound characterisation, sound score, detailed character interface and unstoppable gameplay all done at its very best..Version: 2.4.71

Best RPG by a country mileA terrific rendition of the seminal RPG. Beamdog deserve an almighty thank you for raising the bar even higher on what can be achieved on today's IOS. Using the index finger is now quite brilliant... and I'm real fussy. I have the PC ver too but I choose to play exclusively on my IPad because i think its just better for me. The game is as brilliant and re-playable as it ever was particularly with all the enhancements and its barely crashed in over dozens of hours of play. The save system is subtle and intuitive and the graphics and sound are exactly as they should be. There's months if not years of play in here for pennies. Wow. What more could you ask for? Amazing stuff. Just buy it and roll on BG II & Planescape Torment ASAP. Addendum : June 2013. the cross platform stability of this game is simply stunning. I've just played 6 hours straight with my son who's over 5000 miles away in Beijing. He's on his laptop and I'm on my iPad. None of our AAA games are anywhere near as stable or simple to setup as this & that's even without the Beamdog servers!! An incredible feat of coding. Connection & reloading after a dumb party wipe is simplicity itself. 6 stars. Heaven.Version: 1.0.3

Latest patchHats off to the developers for fixing the frame rate issue on AOE spells! The game is now very stable and plays really well. I eagerly await the second instalment!.Version: 1.2

AMAZINGHaving never played baldurs gate before I wasn't expecting much but it is ridiculously great it's a little hard to understand at first and get into but sooo fun when you get into it. Buy it. Worth it..Version: 1.0.3

IncrediblePlayed it when I was 12 I’m 32 now and all the enhancements and new features make it well worth the 14$.Version: 2.5.17

Love it. Best true D&DWhat a treat to play a game I loved way back when. Back in those days, I had to assemble binders with printed walkthroughs and item locations. It required a huge time investment/obsession. Now, if I get stuck, I can just google very specific info, and the gameplay controls/importing characters are easy. I’m going through the game effortlessly, which makes it more enjoyable. I splurged on this set at the beginning of the coronavirus lockdown and finally beat Throne of Bhaal. I just purchased Neverwinter Nights and was disappointed that I can’t import my characters, but I’m glad to see yet another Forgotten Realms game on iOS. These games on iPad were my dream come true..Version: 2.5.17

High expectationsOMG It's finally out. This has been an emotional ride ever since I heard about this release. This game in its original form was hours of fun. I'm so happy that I'm not the only D&D fan out there that has been waiting for something like this. Thank you so much to everyone who put blood, sweat and tears (I'm sure) into bring us this amazing chance to revisit old friends. Drizzt I'm coming for your swords and boots budy..Version: 1.0.2007

Arguably the best RPG ever, made better, portable.Trent and his team have done a great job in restoring this game for the PC and in porting it to the iPad. Everything about the classic has been preserved (complex 2nd Ed. Rules, unforgiving difficulty and all), and has even been made fresh through the addition of new NPCs and new areas to stomp around in. The game is in a much higher resolution than the old version, and the game engine has all of BG2's improvements. It's a lot like having gone through the arduous process of modding your PC copy, except with even more great extras, and anyone who's tried to wade through the mess of getting all the mods installed on their PC should know that the $10 price tag on this game is a bargain. The iPad controls work very well. Most of the gameplay is simple and intuitive to anyone who's played this before with a mouse, and anyone who hasn't should also be able to pick it up easily. There are a few minor gripes (difficulty looting bodies, passing through doors), but they don't sour the experience. I've been playing on both versions of this game, and I switch back and forth between them easily..Version: 2.5.17

A good effort...just a few issuesCongrats on a fine looking rendering of this absolute classic & all time fav game. Not to rain on your parade but A couple of issues that ive noticed.... Fighting is becomming a painfully frustrating task. pausing is great ( as in the pc version) but no one follows the directions they're given. my archer walks right up to the guy with a sword when hes directed to shoot from a distance. Walking through doors into premises seems to be a hit and miss affair...i usually have 2 or 3 goes before it swaps to the new room. Simulary it seems to be tricky to pick up stuff off the ground after a kill. :/ seems to crash 2 or 3 times in a sesh...thank god for quick save. Im using an ipad 3. I REALLY wanted to support u guys & give this 5 stars but the gameplay is not a shade of the original version :((( patch it up and it will b a 5 star effort..Version: 1.0.2007

Worth taking the time to learnThis is an epic series at an epic price. I’ve spent several weeks playing through 1 & 2 and Planescape:Torment is awesome too - arguably even better than this - but this is pretty good! It IS a late 1990’s port, so don’t expect the latest and greatest, but this has a rich story line and awesome gameplay. I didn’t buy the add ons and wish that I did... Not sure what it would be like to go back and play them now..Version: 2.4.71

One of the best games ever madeA true masterpiece of a game. Maybe a bit intimidating for new / younger players (unless you play pillars of eternity etc), but a truly exceptional, essential piece of gaming history. Countless hours of adventure! iPad is the preferable way to play this however if you’re already familiar with the game, an iPhone “max” will be fine. I play on 2020 iPhone SE - it’s a struggle and buttons are too small for this screen but I know the game well and can manage.......Version: 2.5.17

An amazing game, story and experienceI first played Baldur’s Gate on 6 disc CD years ago so I am so happy to be able to carry this epic with me everywhere - the enhanced edition adds kits, containers, quests, items and companions and is (mostly apart from nerfing critical success pickpocketing) a grand improvement in a number of ways. Whether you want to play a mage or a rogue or subscribe more to the “swords for everyone” philosophy of combat, there is a marvellous story full of adventure, emotion and betrayal to carry you there. Note: if you are re-downloading and have lost your purchases there is no “restore purchases”button *but* just click to purchase again, approve to buy and you’ll get an iOS pop-up asking if you want to download it again for free since you already own it which is a relief!.Version: 2.5.17

Love the gameLove Baldur’s Gate. Love the EE and especially the new characters. Dorn is a beast! I bought the game several years ago with my new iPad before BG II EE came out. iPad has since gone to the kids and come back to me with the game deleted. When I redownloaded from the App Store the in game purchases I bought didn’t come with them even though it’s the same account. Any idea how to get them back? Now that there’s the new bundle I’d like to get it and play it all through..Version: 2.5.17

Return of a classicMore could have been done with the graphics, but then some of the scale of the game would have to be sacrificed. It has its flaws like the original, but is worth the purchase. You will get weeks of entertainment.Version: 1.0.2007

Oh, the memories...This is the game that taught me to always clear the map. This is the game that taught me it's best to save every...single...time something happened. Also, it taught me to never let a barrel or cabinet go un-rummaged. I totally agree that the controls are a challenge to decipher if you never played before, but we had to figure it out back in the day, so stick with it! You'll get it. So happy I found this game again! It's perfect!.Version: 1.3.1

Blast from the pastIt's games like this appearing on the ios platform that reinstall faith for the rich experience focused adventure games making a comeback. A true classic and worth while app that will have you playing nostalgically through this adventure all over again. Hope they release all the other wizards of the Black Isle stuff!!!.Version: 1.0.2007

Venater79Just a simple Thank You for my childhood favourite! :-).Version: 1.3.1

Didn’t play the pc versionLooking for a good iphone DND game, I gave this a try. I am still giving this a try, but it is a hard slog. I probably have to change my combat tactics, but for the novice this game appears to highlight all of the worst parts of actual role playing games (yay! Let’s walk across a giant map for 5 minutes! Let’s click though countless menus trying to organize our inventory! Let’s struggle to walk through doorways! Let’s accidentally cast the wrong spell because one rock icon looks just like any other rock icon!). Meanwhile, the part of DND that most folks find enjoyable, combat, happens in a muddled flash. I have tried modifying the scripts, but the characters have yet to behave sensibly. So, we spend 15 minutes traversing a forest landscape, then 15 seconds getting killed during a random encounter. I’m sure I am missing something, but it has not been super enjoyable trying to figure this game out..Version: 2.5.17

Worth itThe original game was 5 disks without expansion I wouldn't of thought twice about spending at least 30$ on this and if You have only played the really bad console version this version is the pc version which is very very diffrent and is incredibly immersive whith hours of written and spoken dialogue and the ability to go into almost all the buildings and steal and interact for side quests. The only flaw to this version on iPad is major slowdown when certain spells are cast but considering the old version had you switching disks every time you moved across the map I can handle this but if developers read this maybey simpler spell animations for spells that have webs or gas on the screen for extended period of time. Over all I'm so happy to have this game again can't wait to see if bg2 is added !!!!.Version: 1.0.2007

FantasticLike reliving my D&D days as a kid all over again. Playing on an iPhone 6 and it works great. There are ways to adjust text size ect. So many classes and quests. Amazing. Played through and working on BG2. So much support!.Version: 1.3.1

Amazing depth & replay valueThey don't make them like they used to. I have played this game so many times on so many platforms and the latest being 9.7 inch ipad. They have done a fantastic job of porting the game to ois and the multiplayer option has proved to be very robust and enjoyable. There are so many ways to play this game and because of that the pence per hour gameplay rate becomes very very low despite the initial cost of the game. You can play with the characters you meet in the game or switch to multiplayer (which can also be played with just a single player) and craft your characters exactly how you want them. When entering buildings things get small thats true but don't forget you can zoom the screen and once you do everything is clear and your able to place your characters with precision again. These series of games are just amazing. The graphics may be old school but guess what its the gameplay depth that will keep you coming back time and time again for many years to come..Version: 1.3.1

Very good but needs ios11 updateVery good but needs ios11 update.Version: 1.3.1

Must have. Simple as that. There are a couple of little issues, like the tap targets for looting and transitioning doorways could be better tailored to iPad. Currently, clicking on Boo the Hamster will crash the game reliably. Tooltips need to be added to make the game accessible for people who haven't played the original. But even with those issues it is five stars easily, and the developers are responsive and apparently working on improving the game further. It's going to need the App Store changed so I can give it six stars when that happens. Anyone concerned with 1999-level graphics should just concentrate on gameplay. That's what it's all about. If graphics is all that matters to you, go to an art gallery, stop playing games..Version: 1.0.2007

IPhone version behind on steam versionHi there, this is more of a question rather than a review but when will version 2.5.15 be available for iPhone? I’d like to play with my friend who is using his Mac and me on my phone(computer isn’t always available) but we cannot because of different versions..Version: 2.4.71

User interface!Great gameplay, runs smoothly, extensive adventure. But seriously it's only ported from the pc version. There's no change to make it optimised for mobile device especially for phones. For example the spell books, inventory, the way you cast spells , everything is the same as PC! This makes it so difficult to use, there should be a new way to open inventory like making that page full screen or different format to fit screen better. More importantly the spells page is a pain, I cannot identify them by the symbol and the method of holding them one by one to look what spells do is a hassle. It's better if its a list format if it's on a hand held device. All in all, good gameplay only hindered by the ui..Version: 1.3.1

Old Classic is the best game on IOSI’ve been playing Baldur’s Gate for decades and as a fan I can say without a doubt this is the definitive version. Surprisingly well suited for phones(I own a desktop version too) the games current condition is superb. So many old bugs fixed and updated features will respecting the old format and either not tweaking too much or making many new features optional. The new characters and The Black Pits are great additions especially The Black Pits for getting a taste of a new IE campaign in forever and also testing different character builds quickly at high levels before dedicating a 100 hour (and more?) campaign to them. Without a doubt a must have for any IOS games who like their RPG’s. The original game makes the top 100 games of all time lists frequently and this version is only improved. Looking forward to what Beamdog have next..Version: 2.5.17

Brilliant remaster!I love the fact that Beamdog have brought one of my favourite childhood games to the modern age! Baldur's Gate EE has kept everything that was great about the original and improved it in every way, new characters, spells and locations and no bugs (that I’ve found anyway). I think the control system translates to touch screen really well too. If you were a fan of the original Baldur’s Gate or anything D&D then I highly recommend!.Version: 2.5.17

Great funThis is as fun now as it was back in the good old days, but better as I can take the game with me. I can play it on the lounge or wherever I am. I hope they do this for BG2 and other games.Version: 1.0.2007

Old skoolProper game! The amount of hours you get from this is amazing. If only Beamdog would put the old gold top D&D games on iOS..Version: 1.3.1

Love this game!!!I love this game a lot. It was one of the first games I really ever got into as a kid. And seeing it here on my phone and my tablet makes me extremely happy, there's just one problem... When I open the app it tells me that it won't be supported by upcoming IOS's, and I was just wondering if Baldur's was going to be seeing an update in the near future.?.Version: 1.3.1

James Read-TannockThis game is amazing! I've often attempted to play the PC version but never got very far, however I've played Baldur's Gate 2 a lot. I love to see new life being given to great franchises like this, whilst sticking strongly to the original. Some of the extra classes and the Black Pits segment of the game feel crowbarred in, but this does not detract from the game experience. I haven't yet been able to bring myself to purchase the extra portraits etc. but considering the low price compared to the PC version in-game purchases seem reasonable. Unlike many I haven't had too much trouble with the controls - they aren't perfect but they're playable - and to complain about the graphics is absolutely ridiculous. Overall I've been unable to tear myself away from the screen. I haven't tested the multiplayer yet but it looks promising. The only real problem is the lag caused by rendering spell effects, but this will be fixed in an update so I'm quite willing to put up with it for now..Version: 1.0.3

Perfect port to the iPadIgnore the complaints about uncontrollable interface. If you click on the arrows when scrolling through items in a shop rather than attempt to drag like you would have done with a mouse it works perfectly fine. The game has transferred brilliantly to a touch screen and still holds up well graphically. This game is huge and will take you a long time to complete if you explore everything. Too many games on the iPad are boring click-to-build-something-for-12- hours affairs and whilst you can wander about exploring for ages in this game, it's worthwhile and you're actually doing something. I loved this game when it was released 16 years ago and it's still a great game now..Version: 1.2

The OriginalBaldur's Gate is the original true DnD (ver 2) RPG. If anyone gives this a bad (3 star or less) review... they are no doubt upset that "the game" doesn't allow their favourite mage to wear full plate armour. I still have the original boxes... just like NWN its real D&D. Yes, the graphics are dated (that 8bit is all rage lately lol) - but its about the story line and the musical score with the very realistic background sounds. Its tough, intriguing and a wonderful story. Well done Beamdog on a good conversion..Version: 2.5.17

Enable File Sharing With PC AlreadyThis is a great game. I have both the pc and ipad versions of the game. I want to be able to play the ipad version while I am away from my pc and transfer my saved games between the two. Please enable file sharing so I can do this. This is 2015, so this should be a standard feature for a game of this nature and with this much depth. The way is it right now, you have to choose between the two versions instead of embracing both of them at the same time. Come on Overhaul/Beamdog, fix this for us..Version: 1.3.1

If you enjoyed the original, you won't be disappointed...I was a big fan of Baldur's Gate back in the day, and I am very pelased to say that Enhanced Edition for iPad lives up to expectations. I am especially enjoying all the reworked art and video clips... There are some things that take some getting used to with the game. There are some things that a cursor and a keyboard can do for you that a touch interface cannot, but the reworked controls are very intuitive and I am getting used to it very quickly. I LOVE the integration of Pinch To Zoom. I pinch out to explore an area, and zoom in for combat and fine details. I have experienced a crash to home screen twice. Make sure you quick save your game often (icon on left toolbar). I am certain that this will be fixed soon in an update. Thanks to the team that put this together. I know they are taking a lot of abuse from us BG fans, but with the release of this iPad version they will definitely get some appreciation. I am very satisfied!.Version: 1.0.2007

Just as awesome as I rememberGreat trip down memory lane..Version: 1.0.2007

Excellent GameI am pleasantly surprised by how this game turned out on iPad. I was expecting it to be watered down compared to the original PC version, but it hasn't. I finally have a game on my iPad that I don't get bored with playing after five minutes. I do think walking through doors and opening boxes could have improved functionality though..Version: 1.0.2007

Best game on ipadJust spent an entire weekend reliving the past with this amazing game, and it works amazingly well on the iPad. Yes, there are bugs, but nothing that has proven overtly detrimental to my experience thus far. I've encountered the occasional crash upon loading a save after death, and the performance of ongoing area affects is poor. There are also a few interface issues - for example, the pause button would serve better at the top of the screen, and picking up loot can be painful at times. But these are small gripes. Baldur's Gate is as engaging as ever, and is seriously good on the iPad..Version: 1.0.2007

Amazing but...How do I pickpocket people?.Version: 2.5.17

ThiefWaiting for more then a year for patch 2.6 . Who will allow to restore purchase of dlc I already bought. This is resolved thanks. Going from 1 star to 5 star.Version: 2.5.17

Best gameI was astounded by the depth of this game...it just kept going! I'm not a massive game player but this could convert me! For an old roleplayer, I love that it follows D&D so well, I can just about see everyone around the table rolling to hit!.Version: 2.5.17

Still needs more work done!!!I love Baldurs Gate but still needs a lot of work done, game crashes randomly, hard to pick things up and walk threw doors while zoomed out, some quest's don't go into completed when done. Hope this helps with fixing these kind of glitches and bugs :) On a good note though, awesome game for iPad, can't wait for Baldurs Gate 2.Version: 1.0.2007

Love having this game aroundSo there’s some bugs (still) but that doesn’t bother me. This really is a game for people that broke their swords on the original. I’m just happy to have it, pick up whenever I want. I know the game might be cumbersome for newer players. The documentation and help could be better. I guess it’s a steep learning curve if you’re used to recent FPS. This is an original RPG. If you know DND it might take a little while to work with the interface. But the rules are the same, the combat is the same, the spells, the quests, and the great NPCs. Anyway, I hope the negative reviewers give it a little more time. It really is an awesome game. I like to play it through every few years with a totally different character to get different results. Also the transition from mouse point and click to touch is astounding. Good job team :).Version: 2.4.71

Update bugGreat game, but the latest update has led to a glitch in Dorn, he nor longer functions properly. When move him either individually or as part of group, takes a couple of steps then stops..Version: 2.5.17

AwesomeAs awesome as it was when it first came out. Couldnt post a review before cuz i was too busy playing Some minor bugs but nothing that would prevent you from playing $10 for a classic game like this is nothing!!!.Version: 1.0.2007

Love itI always loved D&D games, games with real story! showing support as I would love to see Baldurs Gate 2 and some of the expansions Tales of the sword coast, shadows of Amn on iPad too. Not to mention planes scape torment and The rest. Yes it has bugs but I know you guys will give us some love with updates. I would rather the game soon then later so can handle a few quirks..Version: 1.0.2007

Absolute blast of nostalgia, playing on iPhone 10The smaller screen on IOS takes some getting used to but being able to zoom with your fingers really helps I HIGHLY recommend cranking your phone brightness to max and then the game is as beautiful and easy to see as a game of this generation can be on a phone So far my custom party of 3 has just made their way into Beregost town. Loving the game so far, played the original and its DLC’s and sequels on pc.Version: 2.5.17

4 starsA great refreshed version of the original, with the best bits of the sword coast add on included. The sensitivity of the targeting is a bit of an issue and spells really slow down the gameplay but overall it deserves the 4 star rating I have given it. Still one of my all time favourite games!.Version: 1.0.3

Awesome port— no bugs yet on new updatesThis was a good game port and I have had a lot of fun with it already. I never played it before but it’s a game that is still awesome to play despite its age. Only downside is when I bought it the description lead me to believe all the addons are included in this purchase like the pc version— then I found out I have to pay again :( Also is family sharing enabled? Tried to share it to little brother but he is prompted to pay. Description said share is enabled..Version: 2.4.71

Still an amazing gameHave not played this for like 12ish years, still am awesome game, the add ins and enhancements make it that much better. Can't wait for baldurs gate 2 and the icewind dale series to be released!!!!.Version: 1.2

Wonderful Port!I’m another person who doesn’t understand all the negative reviews here. This game is very well done and a lot of fun to play, but you need to learn how to play these types of games. There is a little bit of a learning curve up front, but it’s not that difficult. Once you get the hang of it, you’ll enjoy the game, storyline and depth of play. I attempted to play this game 15 years ago, but I didn’t pay much attention to the tutorial which caused me much frustration and eventually I abandoned the game. Now that I have taken some time to learn how the game works, I love it! They really did a fantastic job of getting this game onto a mobile platform. I’m very impressed!.Version: 2.5.17

Best purchase I ever made on the App StoreEverything works fine, just missing the right hold click of a mouse button to orientate group in desired direction. Fallen back in love with BG again. Really worth the time you have to put into this. V happy..Version: 2.4.71

Almost 5 stars on the iPhoneI’ve now purchased this game three times! First, upon the original PC release, the updated PC release, and iOS. I really feel like there is so much more opportunity to port old RPG games to iOS... (Ultima Underworld: The Stygian Abyss, anyone?) I’m playing this now on the iPhone XS Max. I am LOVING it, but a few interface tweaks could really improve it. Obviously it is not optimized for iPhone X and above, so there is some wasted horizontal screen space. Also, though I know the game was designed for tablets, it is fantastic to bring it around in my pocket, and really the challenge on iPhone for me is just discerning some of the icons, specifically spell icons. Also if the game was programmed to fade the iPhone’s home bar that would be nice - I think there’s some precious vertical space lost there. Anyway, thanks to the developers for realizing the continued value in these classic older games! My opinion is that a pinch of iPhone optimization might get you a whole new batch of players..Version: 2.5.17

Believe. The nostalgia is strong with this title, and I'm blown away by how well a conversion Overhaul's managed. The game is smooth, and has a lot of "just works" to it. Things are are really good are how the controls have been adapted for touch - by and large, you won't notice you're not playing with a mouse and keyboard. The ability to pan and scan with swipes is game changing, and the world of Baldur's Gate really comes alive with you being able to view it this way. I'm not sure I entirely like the … precision? Sensitivity? …of the attack controls, as sometimes it's a bit fiddly to click on the dude you want to destroy. However, clicking in stores or in dialogue doesn't feature any of this fiddlyness, and I haven't mis-clicked yet. It's not without a few minor glitches, but by and large it just works. The addition of some new portraits and character classes through in-game purchases is a nice touch, but not essential to the game experience. There's something truly awesome about your iPad making all the sounds and effects you remember from days of old, losing weeks to BG when it hit back in the day. I suspect this game is going to make me miss my bus stop :) Thanks Overhaul - you've done God's work here, and it shows..Version: 1.0.2007

One of my favourite gamesThis game is often referred to as one of the greatest games ever made, and I think this still holds up today. It is certainly one of the greatest games I have ever played. This game is huge, and hard. You are thrown in the deep end, which can be quite daunting but it is well worth sticking with it (just remember to save regularly). There has been some criticism of the ipad version but I have had no problems, and find the ipad is the perfect platform for this type of game..Version: 1.2

3.8 stars? Give me a breakBG is a legendary game, and anyone who isn’t a complete chimp can figure it out. This port is great, and perfect for iPad (I wouldn’t do it on a phone). I don’t know where these low reviews are coming from (probably competitors) but for an old school RPG experience with great writing and storyline, along with excellent tactical D&D rules-based combat, it’s hard to beat. The idea that’s it’s rated 3.8 while I’ve seen complete garbage rated 4.5+ is mind numbing..Version: 2.5.17

Perfect.I played through Baldur's Gate when it was originally released many years ago and played it again five years later and then yet again five years later. Unfortunately, my old computer went toast and I swore off PC gaming forever because of the ridiculous costs and hassles of keeping a computer up to date. I had long thought the iPhone and iPad could make perfect platforms for some old classic games. And here it is-- Baldur's Gate, in full iPad glory. Zooming made easy, click with a finger, and you can see all containers easily. I just finished it tonight and I'm a completionist, which means I look in every container and in every nook and cranny for content. There were zero problems and many old bugs fixed. [I do wish they would've fixed the old character scripting issue for thieves set to "Thief Aggressive" where pathing is interrupted whenever the thief automatically attempts to hide in shadows and/or a failure of shadow hiding, but alas...] A friend bought this game for me... I didn't know of its existence on iPad prior to then. Now I'm downloading BG 2 and then Icewind Dale. I do hope Icewind Dale 2 AND Planescape: Torment are in the works!!.Version: 1.3.1

No sound makes me sad. Fixed now. So happySince it’s first release all those years ago, this game has always been on every computer system I have owned. My old iPad mini 2 let me play both BG1 and 2 with hours of enjoyment BUT I recently upgraded to the latest iPad and ALL sound in the game is gone. No matter what I do I end up playing in silence. I want to give this game 5* but until it’s fixed, it’s unplayable. Update. Following an system update all issues seemed fixed..Version: 2.4.71

Can’t tap on some loot caches after updateLove this game! I couldn’t find a way to report bugs in game though. Since the last update, it’s hard/impossible to tap on some loot caches to open them up. The one by Binkos is hard, the one just south of the Friendly Arm Inn is impossible..Version: 2.5.17

Truly enhanced version of a classic gameA must-play RPG for any fan of D&D. Great updates to the UI, bug fixes, graphical improvements, multiplayer (which works much more reliably now in 2.5) and re-adding missing content and adding expansion content and their own. Can be a bit difficult at times, especially if you stumble upon expansion content too early - just come back later. Only one quibble: When building a character, it says refer to the manuals. But there are no links to download the manuals anywhere I can see on their website. Where are they?.Version: 2.5.17

Almost as good as it's sequel. Play this one first.I originally played BGII as a preteen, and enjoyed it immensely. But never got around to playing the original. Now with the Enhanced Edition, I can take my game with me. On an iPhone 6S Plus, the screen *is* a little small to see occasionally, but over all its still very manageable. The iOS has a small button in the corner that allows you to highlight containers, doors, and NPcs, very useful for the format. My favorite enhanced feature is the ability to long-press on the Quick-Save button to export your save to BGII, Dropbox, or your email. Makes it super easy to play the same save on PC and iOS if you know what you're doing..Version: 1.3.1

Fantastic remake of original BG, easily one of the best RPG games on iPadMost Role-playing games (RPG) on iPad are fairly light when compared to PC games. But not Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition (BGEE) for iPad. It's full-on, absolutely-no-compromise port of PC version. Initial release had quite a bit of issues but now the updated version has many issues ironed out. Touch interface works reasonably well. Developers work hard to regularly update the game with funky new features such as new playable classes. If one wants to experience an actual PC RPG gaming on iPad, BGEE is an excellent choice. There are some disadvantages. The game is huge in depth, scope, play time, and download size. It's not something one can play casually. It's unfriendly to new users compared to many games; very rewarding to those who really try, but one needs to learn complex combat mechanics, spells, hundreds of characters, items, quests, plots etc. The game takes more than a hundred hours to finish. Can I recommend BGEE to any who played Baldur's Gate series before? Absolutely. I love playing it while waiting for the flight. Can I recommend it to the "uninitiated"? Tough to tell, it will be either immensely enjoyable or downright frustrating. Serious Buyers Only..Version: 1.0.3

Amazing, but slightly annoying.I’ve spent hours on hours playing this game, trying to get the most out of it as I can, and it’s nothing short of spectacular. If you want a good example of an age defining game with enhanced gameplay, a charming story, and loveable characters, then this game was made for you. My only issue is with The Black Pits actually, where any time I try to beat the necromancer Lyyrk or something, my game crashes and fails, and I can’t continue on with the story. Still, that is only a small DLC, and everything else, besides the save system a bit, is a great work of art..Version: 2.5.17

Very niceI like stabbing people in candlekeep.Version: 1.0.2007

It's finally hereAfter a long wait, we finally see this classic rpg on the ipad. The game will take alot of getting used to for newer players to the series, liberal use of the quick-save and pause game function to issue commands in combat is a must, a little bit jarring for those wanting fast paced action, but ultimately worth it to experience the amazing storyline/dialogue BG:EE offers. Highly recommended..Version: 1.0.2007

Patch helped!Bought this before the jan 24 patch, had to put it down because I had a hard time looting and entering buildings. I know the patch notes don't say they improved it, but there's a big difference. I haven't had to click multiple times on anything in over 5 hours of playing. Good job. Game is great, love the old school DnD rules. A+++..Version: 1.0.2012

A little disappointed at the endingEnjoyed the game very much but I felt a little let down when completing the mission, the death of Sarevok, no collecting the party together and relaying the news back to the Dukes et al. Instead it just plays a short death scene and cuts to the home page. Also can you please sort out the bug in ‘The Black Pits’ when it crashes the moment Llyrk dies. Could have been 5 stars with these faults ironed out..Version: 2.5.17

Great For Handhelds! (One One Condition)Even if you’ve just played on-paper role play games you would be fascinated with this one if you want to get the same level of satisfaction. This game as served me many years on the computer and will now live in my iCloud, devoted fan! Just ran into one game ending bug I get sometimes: whenever I loot something (with the dialogue screen halfway up), the red button below the looting window in the middle is covered by that inventory/dialogue window, forcing me to just close the game and start at the quicksave. Of course it’s never game breaking. Baulder’s Gate taught me to save often despite that but I know how maddening it can be to some people. Love what you guys do, I intend to buy the bundle in the future to support. C:.Version: 2.5.17

IPhone usersAs a Iphone SE user the game plays pretty well. Text is very small but you can enlarge it in the options. Little tricky at first with the controls but you get used to it. 5/5 due to the game being so old and great port to iPhone..Version: 2.5.17

Good game, but dissapointed they missed off Durlags towerGood port, but missing the tales of the sword coast expansion. Would be willing to buy as dlc. Durlags tower made it aweosme.Version: 2.5.17

The Greatest? This neo-classic example of Western RPG gaming paradise brings with it a tour-de-force of frolics and deep gratifying satisfaction. Way back in the latter years of the misty nineties, when games were produced in the knowledge that the average person possesses a relative level of intelligence and creativity; and didn't want to have their hand held throughout their personal adventurous pilgrimage. Before crass tutorials. Before monotonous trend-following reproduction. Before money-spinning rhetoric. There existed a small group of half-crazy Canadian nerds who were demented enough to sacrifice their lives whilst being chained to a PC; and the outcome? The Infinity Engine: arguably the finest RPG engine ever conceived upon planet Earth. Aside from the genius of this wonderfully balanced and fluid D&D strategy gaming experience comes a depth of love and imagination. The dialogue is written with an excellent level and use of English language; and is speckled with original and often hilarious mirth - Canadian wit at its best. The story is thrilling and original. The sense of adventure is free and alluring. The gameplay challenging and joyful. On a personal level, I have sacrificed countless hours of my life upon this game and regret not a dot. I have experienced the game on both PC and iPad. There are some minor hiccups that currently exist on iOS Enhanced; but these hiccups are outweighed by the luxury of touch technology and handheld joy-de-vive. If are looking for a game to test your wit, buy this now. If your are looking for a laugh, buy this now. If you are looking for a masterpiece, buy this now. I only ask that you devote no less than 20 hours to this game before any judgement is made upon it. This game is a rough diamond of splendorous invention and genius. On the other hand, one could always just roll along playing the next predictable and mindless RPG clone that is released just before Christmas. The choice is yours, I guess. Thank you Bioware. Thank you Beamdog. Thank you Overhaul. Thank you Trent and all. Your hard work is worth a treasure chest bursting with jewels, gold pieces, magical weapons, and scrolls; hidden in the darkened ruins of a near-forgotten chamber. From Silverstone, England with gratitude overflowing, Shaun..Version: 1.3.1

Better than the originalThis is hands down one of the best games of all time, and plays amazingly well on the iPad. It is like it was always meant to be played this way. Kudos to the dev team on an amazing job!.Version: 1.0.2007

There is a reason BG3 is based on thisStill the best after all these years. Play this, BG2 and Torment then find Fallout 1.Version: 2.5.17

Fantastic! The baldurs gate games are in my oppinion, the best mobile games ever! I love every one! I only wish there was an update with more races and companions and maybe better graphics.Version: 2.5.17

Perfect.I have never reviewed a purchase before, but decided I had to for this one. After reading other reviews I almost didn’t buy this game, but I am so glad I did. I played this game on PC back when it came out, and am very impressed with the game play on the app. I am playing on the IPhone 7 Plus, and it is awesome! If you are already familiar with the game, and are thinking about playing on your phone, I would recommend it. I have been able to get further than I ever did on the PC..Version: 2.4.71

This is a port from an old PC game I had.I loved these games so much... and never got to finish them when I was younger. Now I have them on my phone... and all I can say is thank you very much. I finally get to play this game out in all good and evil directions. Never had the chance... til now. <3 Thank you... thank you so much..Version: 2.5.17

Epic!I think the gaming industry has changed a lot since the advent of mobile gaming. Many newer gamers expect easy games with quick fixes and are completely intolerant of anything that impedes these quick fixes! They're not prepared to put the time into playing and developing a long term game and as such haven't experienced the rewards that can be gained by playing such an EPIC game! I think that's the reason some are giving the game a low score. Yes, there are faults, but they really don't affect the enjoyment of the game. Once you've formed your party and become engrossed in the story line these faults are barely noticeable! One piece of advice though. It's old school so it's hard! Save regularly using the quick save button, like every minute ;).Version: 1.0.2007

Great rendition of a classicI am having great fun playing this; reliving a classic from the past. Minor UI challenges (entering buildings, selecting treasure) are quickly mastered and allow me to enjoy the best game that I have on the iPad..Version: 1.0.2007

Better than sliced breadUpdated for 1.3.1: with the new update, we can easily migrate saves across devices! I loved BG2 when I played it on my PC over a decade ago. To be able to play these games on my iDevices has been like a dream come true. The interface is as good as can be expected given the required complexity of this game, the story, depth, wonder and giddy excitement is here. This is a game for hardcore games who want many, many tens of hours of entertainment..Version: 1.3.1

Hooked on itLiterally the best game. That’s all I can say..Version: 2.5.17

A truly enhanced editionMany enjoyable hours have been spent on my iPad Mini playing this. The game is a complete work of art. It has continued to receive attention, fixes and improvements from the developers of the years. The new areas and characters truly fit in with the charm of the original and look beautiful. I very much look forward to playing through the iOS version of Siege of Dragonspear!.Version: 2.5.17

Nostalgia, Does this generation really have more ADHD than me?I read a couple of the reviews, and I will preface this one by saying I played ( although didn't finish ) the game when it originally was released on PC. There was not a tutorial at that time, and the game was an awesome experience. Apparently, today it looks as if most the poor reviews are from people that did not play the original ( and likely were not alive when it was released ) as the beginning area in this game provided more guidance than I remember of most games at that time. Ok so I have rambled long enough, if you played games in the mid to late nineties, you will like this game whether you ran across this one or not. If you are accustomed to more recent games with integrated and in depth beginning tutorials, you will find this game difficult to get started with. I recommend buying it, and sticking with it. I find it is much easier to play on my iPhone than it ever was on my PC..Version: 1.3.1

Fantastic blast from the pastThis is a fantastic game beautifully remade to support multitouch. Great story, great open world to explore and an excellent real time translation of AD&D. Also, it has true multi platform support. I'm currently playing it through with my mate who has it for the PC. Note, I've been playing on an iPad so I know nothing of these sidebar issues that iphone peeps have been complaining about..Version: 1.3

Supurb! This is an excellent remark of the original Balder's gate. it has everything the original had but with the addition of more locations, new npcs from the second one and characters polish. i never did play the original when it came out so the power of the greatest pc game to ever live is not portable on my iPhone. its also worth it to pay for the three new characters and new voice additions since this is a 60+ stroyboard..Version: 1.3.1

Playing on iphone5cGame is great have been waiting along time for this to come out on iPhone the only issue is that the buttons on the left are to small and need to be rescaled for the iPhone screen! Updated review to 2 stars because the side bars disappear and you can't get them back! This makes the game unplayable and a waste of £6.99!! Please can the developers get this fixed with a patch ASAP as the game would be 5starsif this is fixed! Updated my review if you loose the side menus when playing open the iPhone settings go to general accessibility and turn on the zoom function then reopen bgee app and double tap with 3 fingers to zoom in pan the screen with 3 fingers and access the tab at the bottom right or left of the screen tap the tab and the side menu will pop back up I have done this a few times and works every time! Hope this helps fellow bg gamers..Version: 1.3

:)Excellent game as always... expect i dont know you to close the in game chat dialogue ( the chat that says everything u do).Version: 2.4.71

Blast from the past! This is a great game, it brings back memories sitting at the PC playing this game for hours and hours. The only thing I would like to see is for the app to multi-task better. When I open another app and come back to the game, it just re-opens from the very start. Apart from that this is an awesome app! Well worth it taking up 1.7gb of space on my ipad!.Version: 1.0.3

AmazingAlmost exactly as I remember it from when I played it in my childhood. Even better, this includes the expansion with Durlag's Tower and Ulgoth's beard. They've also added a few classes from later editions, such as Sorcerers and Monks, and some items such as potion cases so you don't have to worry about your inventory space all the time. Bugs that others have encountered all seem to have been fixed. I would suggest however only playing this on an iPad, or a very large phone at a push, as it can be difficult to click where you want to. This is a big factor in this game..Version: 1.3.1

Great game, enhanced!Loved the original and the enhanced edition is great, fixed a lot of the bugs in the original and added brand new content. What more could you ask for? This game is timeless..Version: 1.3.1

Unsurpassed!Played this game on a PC many years ago. A game of such imagination and complexity in my view it has no peers and has never been bettered. No just a shoot ‘em up game but one that requires some thought and strategy. When you play it you discover new facets every time. Very pleased that is available for iPads. Try it, stick with it, and you will be amply rewarded..Version: 2.4.71

Original classicOnly thing missing is cross save with Mac or pc. Great game, solid port.Version: 2.5.17

Controller Support. This would be so much better with controller support..Version: 2.5.17

Great to play againAwesome to be able to play this game on a mobile device. There may be a few interface problems, and occasion crashes, but for the complexity of the game this is managable. However to get 5 stars could producers please add an option to remove the level cap. One part of the replayability of the game has always been the challenge of getting through the game solo, without taking on party memebers. The level cap makes this difficult toward the end, and one should afterall be reward for any and all actions taken in all missions, not just up to chapter five or so..Version: 1.3

Still a great gameOne of my favorite games from childhood. Beamdog did a great job bringing it back to life and as unbelievable as it seems, the iPad is a fantastic medium to experience this fantastic game. The iPad’s multitouch screen has ruined me for the PC version. Being able to zoom in and out on the iPad is pretty glorious. The first day my wife and I played we had numerous issues such as the game refusing to unpause after resting and constant network drops, but we resolved them by switching out her 2011 iPad for our PC and using the local network/direct connect option. After doing those two things the game has been rock solid. Crossplay between my 6th gen iPad and our PC has been great. Being able to introduce my wife to this game has been awesome. She’s having a blast. Thanks Beamdog..Version: 2.5.17

Awesome!Worth every cent! I can't wait for BG2EE now because BGEE was so great. At first I thought it would be harder to control then on PC but now I see it is better on tablet then PC with perfectly optimized controls. Best app in the store!.Version: 1.2

Just as good as I remember!I spent a lot my school Hollidays playing this years ago when it came out and playing it again all these years later is amazing I remember where hidden items are and my way though the missions, beautifuly recreated on my iPad! And perfectly playable with no issues whatsoever, you have to have patience save the game lots before battles and carefully pick apart big groups to smash any enemies! I love it a true classic and very rewarding!.Version: 2.5.17

Spot onGreat game loving it.Version: 1.3.1

Great in all respects save oneThis is an incredibly failthful merging of aspects of Bg2 with its predessesor making the game even more enjoyable than when I remember. The only blemish is the exported character files. When playing on a PC if you have unwanted character files its is a simple matter of going through the system directory and removing them. When playing on an IPAD however that is not an option and eventually your list of pregenerated characters gets extremely congested. If I were to make any suggestions to the developers , you have done well adapting the game to a table but please take the above into account and add a simple “Delete Character” button..Version: 2.4.71

Support the the Black Isle legacy!I've been a stringent fan of the Baldur's Gate series and it's parent company for 15years and beamdog's contribution doesn't disappoint. The main reason that I even bother writing this review is to show my support for beamdog's vision of revitalizing Black Isles ground breakingly epic games. A requirement of quality work is the recognition of what makes a product great, this game proves that beamdog has what i takes to make it big, vision and the guts to see it through..Version: 1.0.2007

Bring on BG II !!Still my favourite RPG of all time. I thought the game played much better on the ipad than PC, as the ability to click more quickly on multiple points on the screen is superior to using a mouse. Plus ipad is so much more portable than PC, so I found you play through the game a bit faster. Note to developers: everyone is waiting for an ipad version of Dragonspear!.Version: 2.4.71

Brilliant to see it backThis is a classic RPG that defined a genre. It is fun and enjoyable on the iPad. For those new to BG. It is not a simple tap tap and swipe game common to this platform. It does require you to learn the interface for the game to unfold. For those familiar with BG. This is the enhanced version of BG which marries some of the BG2 rules and engine with the BG1 story. There has been some criticism of the interface controls. The tutorial was written to help ease people into the interface. If that isn't sufficient the developer site makes detailed manuals available which cover the BG game world including instructions on the iPad controls. The community online forum is extensible. And yes the game is modable. Is still relevant? Will I gave it to my teenagers and they love it. (and they don't seem to have any problem with the controls either.).Version: 1.0.3

Thank youStarted playing this on the PC. Now I can enjoy this game in my arm chair and on the toilet seat. Great work developers on this awesome port. I and so many people were waiting eagerly for this port to come out and with bugs and other issues I didn't think it would be released on the ipad till next work. Great for releasing it on time. Now. Can't wait for no.2.Version: 1.0.2007

A phenomenal game that stands tall among classicsAn amazing game full of a beautiful world, great characters and incredible writing; Baldur’s Gate and its sequel are well considered to be some, if not the greatest, rpgs of all time. This game was credited with revitalizing the rpg genre, and still holds up well today. Not unlike the elder scrolls series, Baldur’s gate has a great deal of side quests to embark on. These quest lines add to the complexity and believability of the Sword coast. Truly a first of open world rpgs, the Sword Coast consists of many ecosystems, caves, and forbidding dungeons; teaming with monsters of every shape and size. Baldurs gates musical score is also very good, and sets the mood well. The combat is complicated, at times difficult, as the player will find him/herself merciless slain for much of the early game. Baldur’s gates gameplay becomes easier as the player becomes more experienced with the D&D mechanics. Overall, this game truly was a game changer, and still holds out exceptionally well to this day..Version: 2.5.17

Great Retro TitleIf you want an iPad RPG game with a bit of depth, look no further. The controls are a bit fiddly, and the interface is a bit kludgy by today's standards, but this game has depth and longevity that is missing from a great many 'modern' RPG games. I'm loving it..Version: 1.0.2012

Great!Wow! Thought the touch controls could be cumbersome and the performance may supper for such a big game....but wow...this plays great!.Version: 1.0.2007

Fixed side bar issueWorth playing now for sure.Version: 1.3.1

Should be rated higherThis is as much a review as a love letter to Beamdog. Thanks for porting those games. I’ve rolled five characters and played through these games repeatedly. I’ve racked up countless hours in gameplay and many times that much in thinking about ways to explore the game mechanics. I’m sad to see so many bad reviews because it’s “too small for the phone”. I’ve played it on my iPad but honestly prefer playing it on my phone for some reason. I’m glad Beamdog didn’t restrict it to only iPads for fear of getting the occasional bad review from people with sausage fingers. I rarely hit the wrong buttons and don’t know why so many people seem to have a problem with that... Beamdog did a great job correcting issues I had with this port in the past (e.g. collapsing side bars, save importing, etc). My only hope now is that they find a way to port some of the Neverwinter Nights titles someday. Trent said it would be a challenge and presume that means even more than the formidable challenges they faced in getting BG titles out the door, so I’m not holding my breath. Thanks for the memories either way..Version: 2.4.71

Baldur's Gate Noob on BG: EEI bought Baldur's Gate for iPad having never played BG before. When the game initially came out on PC and Mac in the 90s, I was too busy playing 'Quest for Glory V: Dragonfire' to notice. So, on the one hand, I arrived at BG with very few expectations and on the other, I had heard so many positive things about the original that I was very keen to purchase it once available on the App Store. After playing through the tutorial and a bit of the single player, it has really become something of an addiction. Many have commented on the control scheme, but there is nothing particularly wrong with it in my opinion. You cannot blindly tap and hope you hit your intended target, and you must use a bit of conscious effort to click on certain objects, but there is nothing inherently 'broken' about the controls. I think the game has been translated extremely well to iPad, and I can't wait to get back into it. It's so great having a proper game for the iPad - this is what gaming on a tablet can be. Why settle for less?.Version: 1.0.2007

Life, death, decayGame looks good on my iPad and runs well, I’m impressed that Beamdog regularly updates their games. It takes me back to 1998 when i was first playing CRPGs. It’s possibly the finest achievement on the iPad, great value, great game, Beamdog, I love you..Version: 2.4.71

Great game, but please help!!I love BG, have played through it many times (great offline game when I’m unable to be on WiFi for extended periods of time). However, when I go to play the Black Pits, it ALWAYS crashes when I kill Llyrk. DEVELOPERS, please address this. I haven’t had this happen in the regular BG ever, but it’s happened at least 5 times, with imported characters and the stock group. I would love to see this fixed and be able to enjoy the full content of this incredible game. -Thank you in advance..Version: 2.5.17

Best AD&DStill has replay value to this day and for me will have for a long time yet. There have been many RPGs since BG was originally released, but this is by far the best CPU adaptation of turn based play. The story line is very well written as are the NPCs, they really make it feel like you are playing co-op. Awesome game, was, is, and always will be! If there is never a BG3 I will be gutted..Version: 1.0.2007

Needs commitmentThis is a deep and complex old school RPG with a steep learning curve. I strongly suggest you find the manual to this game and study it first. Although it takes some work, the payoff is enjoying one of the greatest classic RPG series ever made. The series will give you back dozens and dozens of hours of enjoyment if you put in a little time at the front end. There is a long story line with much reading involved, many companions to get to know and adventure with, and complex combat with endless ways to play. Take your time and enjoy it the old school way and you wont be disappointed..Version: 2.5.17

A must play game for any RPG loverOne of the great RPG games of all time now on the iPad. Absolutely loving being able to play this on the go and I am waiting for the sequel (which is materially better!). A deep complex game which requires thought and does not hold your hand. There are lots of online resources to help you along and the tutorials do provide some starting point. There are some interface issues but in the main, these are minor. I do find that there are some crashes (particularly around multitasking) but the quick save button is readily available.Version: 1.2

5 stars, A+, 2 thumbs upThis game is simply excellent. It has a huge world, deep combat, a good story and memorable characters. I completely recommend this title IF: you have an iPad (the phone is just too small); you are willing to take some time to learn the game mechanics (it can take a bit to get going); you can accept a RPG where some choices are "wrong" ones (you can be evil but there will be consequences) And after you finish this lengthy game get ready for an even better sequel..Version: 1.3.1

UPDATE!Update #5: THANK YOU! It’s sad that it’s so rare nowadays that a developer actually listens to their customers, but Overhaul has done it. Restoring the appropriate rating to this gem of a game. 5 stars, and well worth every cent! Thanks guys! Update #4: While all the other Apps got an update (I already updated my reviews back to 5 stars), this one still hasn’t! What’s the hold up? You updated the sequel, but not the original? I’m still trying to beat IWD before I even begin on this one, and what’s the point of playing the second before the first?? Waiting.... Update #3: Still nothing, yet I added one more star to my rating because, according to the website (as of the 5th of July 2017), an update is "on the way" for BG:EE and BGII: EE (they added in ID:EE as an afterthought, so hopefully there as well), but no ETA. I'll update my rating IF this app gets updated. Update #2: Still nothing. $10 for a game that won't even play correctly on the newest iOS devices (or anything after 2015). Instead of updating this and their other apps (the 2nd BG and Icewind Dale), they just release a NEW game for $10. Sorry Devs, but you won't be receiving any of MY hard earned cash until you start UPDATING your games. Please, for the love of GOD, could you update this game! I paid good money for this!.Version: 2.4.71

AmazingMust play!!.Version: 1.3.1

Not for everyoneIt's definitely not for everyone. I've played similar games before (PoE, Divinity: OE, Diablo) but none of them really compare to the depth of BG. It took me about a week of fumbling around and getting frustrated before I started to get the hang of it but now I'm absolutely hooked. If you're going to really sink some time into it and you have plenty of patience then I highly doubt you'll be disappointed with this game. The payoff is so worth it..Version: 1.3.1

One of the best RPGs of all time......made even better by being ported to the iPad. Amazing!! And all the improvements are great, I just can't go back to vanilla after all this. HUGE kudos, best money I've ever spent. Edit: this keeps getting better and better! Going to do another play through!.Version: 1.3.1

PerfectThis is an amazingly well-built conversion from PC that works seamless on my iPad. Contrary to some reviews, the controls on the iPad are perfect and it’s superior to the PC version. It never skipped a beat throughout the entire game. I thought I would miss the keyboard and mouse but they have adapted everything and I feel it’s better than the original! Awesome, work. Can’t wait for SoD..Version: 2.4.71

WowBought this when it first came out and left it on my back burner because I did not understand how a game like this played. Read the Brandon forums to get s better idea this game is awesome! Can’t put it down. Also bought the other two Baldur’s games.Version: 2.4.71
