✓ Very cool and one of the best spade games.I been playing about maybe a year now and it never came to my attention but a few months ago I was winning about all the time and then the AI partner would just start throwing the game away right at the point when I just knew we were going to win and boom I was getting so mad and I just had to calm down and deal with those emotions and loses. I consider myself pretty good I have played spades all my 60 years and have played many kinds and this is the funniest game and coolest little AI partners except when they make boneheaded moves like scatting on aces and sure books so I gave it a rating of 5 stars and I just wanted to know if it counts on your apple gaming achievements. ?.Version: 1.1.3
✓ AI astonishingly badOverall, this is a good time filler if you like spades. The AI is astonishingly bad. It makes no attempt to set you if you bid NIL (eg, it just starts throwing out aces that you can drop high cards under). also, it drops spades when it doesn’t have to, sometimes against the interest of the contract. For example, my partner was fourth to play and third play had bid NIL and was going to take the trick, my partner played a spade when he didn’t have to. If you are at all a competent spades player, you should absolutely crush this game..Version: 1.1.3
✓ I love the game, But….Nice gameplay. It’s really great you can play with no ads! (Thanks Apple Arcade!) But what happened to the great syncing that Apple Arcade brings? Where you can play on one device, and continue on another? Or at least have the same stats on all devices? I am playing on my iPhone and iPad. Both devices are not showing the same progress / Tier of the other. Is this something that can be fixed? Other than that I really like this game. Spades is great for passing the time!.Version: 1.1.3
✓ AlmostI started playing spades when I was a little kid. We would play 4to5 days a week for several hours. This games brings me back to that time. I would give this game a higher score if the AI wasn’t so infuriating. Only your partner is the problem. Not know when to throw away so we don’t sandbag. My opponents seem to get this but not my partner. Also they don’t bid very well. Almost always underbidding. It makes me not want to play as much. I only started seeing it as a major issue the further I got in the game. The AI being stupid should not the be way the developer introduces a more difficult setting but that is what it seems to be. Updated! I deleted this app due to the AI cheating. I reached the top level and somehow the AI has the ability to go NIL 4 times in a row and make it easily. Or it might go nine 3 to 4 times in a row… no issues! I’m really good at spades but the difficulty in this game has nothing to do with my ability or lack of. Wish this game had real opponents. ✓ Bots cheatDespite what the developers say, it’s obvious from the way the bots play that they are like 1 player playing 2 hands rather than 2 separate players that don’t know what their partner has. I have played this game in the past and thought maybe after so much negative feedback that the developers might have changed the AI, but it still feels the same, with the same cheating AI.Version: 1.1.3

✓ Great app, questionable AIThe app is smooth and looks great and I can forgive the illusionism around there being other “players” in the game. It’s AIs all the way down tho, and sadly the AI doesn’t appear to be a particularly experienced partner. Some really questionable choices made during gameplay — stuff that a human player would never do if they had the option for another play, yet the AI is cheerfully doing them under those circumstances. I’ve played the game plenty, but for an experienced Spades player it’s not as challenging as it could be with a well tuned AI..Version: 1.1.3
✓ DisappointingI’ve gotten fed up with this game and deleted the app 3 times and reinstalling hoping for a different result. Doesn’t happen. I’m tired of the awful partners, frustrated with their play choices. I’d like to be able to refuse some partners. The opponents always getting better cards than I can ever hope for. ✓ Zero artificial “intelligence”Nice implementation, BUT: It would’ve been nice if my partner understood that it’s not necessary, and in fact is plain stupid, to bid Nil when we are one trick from winning a set while our opponents are 15 tricks from winning. ✓ Incredibly frustrating aiThe should be a fun game but the ai players are terrible. Playing “competitive” mode to have partners bid nil when you have 490 or more points and then losing it. Bidding high with terrible cards. Not to mention a lot of the daily challenges are based on your ai partner cooperating, like win a game without losing any bids and then the ai partner makes a stupid bid and you fail the challenge. This could be fun, but so much is messed up there’s no point in really trying..Version: 1.1.3
✓ Realistic Game???Before the actual game began I was notified I’d have a partner as opposed to playing against the computer. No problem I thought until bidding followed by the initiation of playing our cards. In team Spades when your partner throws out the highest card in a given suit and the play has reached you trumping the trick with a spade is contraindicated and self defeating. Equally ridiculous is having “my partner” overtrump an opposing player’s high card who has bid NIL when doing so has the direct effect of allowing the opposition to make 100 points. In real game play you duck their high card play sinking their bid. Since writing this review I’ve played hundreds of additional games. Here are some additional strong suggestions. Never lead out a king from a king doubleton unless the other card is a queen since doing so guarantees that if your opponent has the Ace Queen you’ve just given them not one but possibly two tricks. Likewise, in real play no one either leads a low card when holding the Ace of a suit nor throws off a low card on the opponent’s lead hoping you’ll get to cash it later. When opponents bid Nil one’s Bot partner should be programmed to try to both make our bid and stopping the opponent from making theirs. Otherwise please create an option where Apple Arcade players globally can team up together to play other humans. Heck you could actually create leagues.Version: 1.1.3
✓ The final level of this game is RIDICULOUS and/or BROKENThis game is fine until you reach the Grand Master/Ultimate Tier and you reach a top 3 ranking. For starters, your partner plays as if this is their first time playing spades and makes some absolutely boneheaded moves. Then when you start gaining on the #2 ranked player, it makes you face them a few times in a row and gives them an unusually high amount of nil hands or hands with higher than normal values. One might be able to overlook the first two things but the absolute worse thing is that the players around you who you’ve passed in the rankings magically gain 20-80 points over night pretty much every night. This is like the fifth day in a row where I find myself ranked below players I was comfortably ahead before I went to sleep not even 8 hours ago. I’ve had it with this game and won’t be playing it anymore. This is just ridiculous..Version: 1.1.3
✓ No bags!The normal spades rules have bags for overtricks, and if a team gets to 10 bags it is -100 pts. This is a major part of the game and seems to be totally missing from this implementation, so how it actually teaches anyone to play spades without that rule I do not know. As others have mentioned the ai is too dumb, does not try to defeat nils, and can often be brought down in its bid. The game is quite fun perhaps if you are new to card games..Version: 1.1.3
✓ Horrible AI and shufflingI’ve had this app for a few months and kept going back hoping things would change but sadly never did, the AI partner has no clue how to play halfway decent and the opponents hands are almost always stacked against you leaving you to play catch up or not even trying to win because you have a crappy hand as well. If you want an app to watch opponents beat you like you owe them lunch money this is the app for you, but if you want to play a good game of spades this isn’t the app. The developers need to go into the codes and fix the ally AI strategies and also fix the shuffling percentages because from the beginning the app is against you. I’ve played probably about 50 different games all the way through and only won 2 games and rage quit so many more due to countless terrible hands or the ally AI basically throwing the game so the opponents win.Version: 1.1.3
✓ RiggedThe game is good until you get up to the final level. When you begin getting towards the top you’ll close the app and overnight the people behind you suddenly gain 40 or so points which they didn’t have previously so you can never get past 2nd or 3rd. Also, the other player on your team will only ever bid a maximum of 2 or 3 and then won’t get their bid so you lose all of your points. This game is fixed and I’m deleting it now..Version: 1.1.3
✓ Fun game but needs a major fixI honestly do like the game and I play it everyday. I can get over the fact that my partner is a computer and will not bid great. I can get over the fact that the opponent can bid nil and my partner will still throw out high cards. I can even deal with my partner leading with a high spade right after spades are cut What I truly can’t deal with, is the fact that I can’t see all the bids, most of the time, until after I bid. I don’t just look at my hand when I count books. I look to see what my partner has. I also see how much the opponents are calling for. This can determine if I want to push it or hold back. This comes out pretty clear when anyone bids Nil. This mean they will be giving up books. I have lost games because I could bided higher but ended up going back 100. Please fix this. ✓ Fair spades gameOverall a decent spades game, but there are a few things that I don’t like. First, I don’t like that it hides the status bar (including the clock), so its not easy to keep track of the time as you play. Second, I’m not a fan of the “quests” or the ranks (against the AI) - I really just want the card game. Also, it would be a nice enhancement if they added the option for local multiplayer games (e.g. pass the phone). I don’t want to play online with strangers, but with family/friends..Version: 1.1.3

✓ Three against oneThis game is a lot of fun! I’ve played Spades for at least 25 years. This is the first app I’ve ever used. In my 25 years of playing Spades with real people and real cards, I have never seen the opposing team go NIL even close to the average twice per game that this app AI does, but only if the opposing team is losing. Further, my “teammate” never tries to catch the opposing team’s NIL “player” by playing low cards in hopes of the NIL opponent unintentionally catching a trick and breaking the NIL rules. HOWEVER, the opposing team does try to play low and catch the NIL player on my team. To complicate matters, I always have a King and/or Ace of spades to prevent me from going NIL in an otherwise perfect NIL hand! Perhaps adding a “mulligan” option, or implementing the common action of the NIL player switching a card with their teammate, when going nil. It is weighted for the AI to win at least 70% of the games played. It is unrealistic and unfair and truly takes a large chunk of the fun out of a “Relaxed” game! How can one relax when the opposing AI constantly stacks the deck or has my AI teammate play high, which helps our AI opponents get NIL 95% of the time. Further, anytime I declare NIL, the opposing team, somehow, bids 10 and gets them. The devs need to look at this again..Version: 1.1.3
✓ Game is riggedI’ve seen other reviews state they feel the game is slanted towards the computer and the developer response. What nonsense. The game is so rigged. Certainly as it gets higher it’s so hard to win. However I believe this is countered by as you get close to the top of a tier it flips and you basically can’t lose so you start to feel good again. Don’t lie to us. You can’t tell me that the computer can just endlessly get “nil” 4-5 times in a row by chance..Version: 1.1.3
✓ RidiculousIt’s hard to believe how poorly the AI partner plays. It makes ridiculous decisions, including passing on taking tricks it could have taken and needed to take to make its bid. Other times it woefully underestimates it’s hand, which means taking more bags than necessary is inevitable. If the idea is for the human player to manage significant unpredictability with partners, then this game makes sense…but is needlessly frustrating. Experienced players would not make the mistakes the AI makes, so it’s as if the game is stuck in a perpetual mode of inexperience and low expertise. In other words, ridiculous..Version: 1.1.3
✓ AI fails basic mathFun game, but again and again the AI for the partner makes dumb mistakes at the end, even at higher levels. If we only need 20 points to win, and the opponents are not within reach, and I bid “1”, the partner doesn’t bid the obvious “1” for the win. I’ve even seen them bid “Nil” on borderline cards and then go bust. Or if not bidding Nil, they bid higher than necessary to win, and we fall short and lose. This should be simple math for the AI. A simple AI rule like “If the opponents have both bid and their bid will send them over 500, don’t bid more that the max they can score.” “If we are about to win and the opponents cannot possibly get to 500 in this round, only bid what we need to clear 500.” Pretty straightforward. Also, the AI will trump a trick with a spade when they have a non-spade that would bust the opponent’s Nil. “If three cards have been played and the opponent is in danger of busting a Nil, prioritize busting their Nil over winning the trick.” With a smarter AI, this definitely would be 5 stars..Version: 1.1.3
✓ Pretty good but could be betterGame play is smooth. I am pleased to see this company releasing to Apple Arcade and hope they continue with that. Game needs the blind nil feature. Computer controlled partner has awful AI. Totally misbidfing their hand. It isn’t fun when the total trick bid is so low that there is no threat of any set occurring. AI is extremely poor at handling a nil situation. These need to be improved so that is isn’t so much just robotically laying down cards hand after hand.Version: 1.1.3
✓ AI frustrates as a partnerThis game needs more options. When I played with friends, we allowed partners to swap a handful of cards. Gives you a better chance of pulling off nil. We talked with each other before giving our bid, instead of having to bid blind like in this game. The AI partners sometimes give some really stupid moves. They don’t cover you when you bid nil or they don’t force an opponent to take a trick when they bid nil. THERE IS NO WAY TO FORFEIT. If your partner screws you a couple of times when you go nil or they go nil and whiff, you get in a hole that you’re not getting out of, but there’s no way to just forfeit and start over. The closest is bidding 12 and losing 120 points so you can get to the mercy rule quicker. I hate having to play through worthless games I know that I can’t win. This game need more options so it isn’t so frustrating or so you can get out of bad games when the AI lets you down..Version: 1.1.3
✓ TrashI’ve been playing this for a while to get my Spades fix and I have finally had enough - this game is just trash. AI is a tough thing to handle, but worse when you have to rely on them to do something. And if you get really far along, which is a slog, the AI starts acting less predictably, less rationally, and oftentimes it looks like cheating - teammate leads low suit, opponent plays off suit but not a Spade, and miraculously their teammate has the Ace despite the suit never coming up. Meanwhile, if their teammate doesn’t have the Ace somehow they know to throw a Spade - again without any observable information about that suit. Once in a while with misses here and there would make sense but it is a very consistent thing. Also it’s shameful to not even have the option for passing on nil, having blind nil, or passing two on blind nil. This is lazy work..Version: 1.1.3
✓ It is okayThe UX leaves a lot to desire. It is very easy to mid-tap and play the wrong card that blows up the whole game. The AI is pretty stupid. It plays badly and even thinks that trumping its own winning trick is something to trash talk you over. The scoring is severe. I am used to playing spades so that each trick down is -10 points, not that underbidding is minus your whole bid. So conservative play is the key. It is far too easy to bid nil and win because the AI is stupid. Despite this I am playing a lot. You will like it for a day or three and then move on..Version: 1.1.3
✓ Not really so much ironic as predictableThis game is fun. Just don’t take it seriously because there is a great deal of player leveling going on. And since they control your partner, you win when they determine it’s time for you to win. Your partner will regularly blow the opt to force someone to violate their nil by playing a higher card than they should have. Next round, they play the card they should have. And it’s honestly like this : the developers obviously want it to feel fair so they stack the odds in such a way that the game feels like you are really playing. Your not, really. They give you good cards if you get too far behind and they give the other team good cards if you get too far ahead. I have played hundreds of times and never just cleaned house. When it looks like I’m doing well my ‘partner” goes for the nill with an ace of spades and all Royal cards. Like I said, it’s not ironic that every game is the same, it’s predictable and by design. ✓ Need more optionsNeed to be able to change partners and opponents and be able to turn off nil from ai. Ai goes nil with to many high cards including spade heavy. Update: this game is horrible and I am now deleting it from my phone. Every round one Opponent gets two to three aces and the other opponent gets the majority of spades. Also every round to every other round the opponents will go nil usually trading off. No human goes nil every round. This game needs serious changes. ✓ Needs a Hyper Competitive ModeThe game is OK but the other players (computer) are DUMB! Usually when playing against a computer it plays perfectly and makes it tough. Not so here. Your partner will make the dumbest moves, especially if you bid NIL. Oh and your partner will always underbid. So pad your bid accordingly. Currently there’s Relaxed Mode and Competitive mode. ✓ Addictive but flawedHire new developers!! The partner bot consistently bids wrong. The higher the level the worse he plays. The opposing bots suspiciously cover their partners nil but almost always sets mine. I also noticed it doesn't pivot like a human during game play (i.e. bagging, setting. I’m sure the developers could create algorithms that would make these AI bots play more human like, but they seem to have programmed them to play like a 3 year old just learning the game. Fix the AI and you could charge money for this game but as of now its just a sad waste of time..Version: 1.1.3
✓ Cheating Partner AI and Cheating Opposing Team AIThis is the absolute worst spades game EVER!!! 1. Poor AI partner that lets opposing team win and constantly under bids. Why is it that whenever the opposing team bids NIL my AI partner allows the nil to win the round even though they could have gotten busted? I’ve seen it happen several times, especially in the Master tiers. The opposing nil bidder has the highest card on the table and my AI partner will cut with a spade instead of playing a different card allowing the nil bidder to win the round. Your AI algorithm needs work! 2. Cheating opposing AI team. Another problem is; the opposing team bids nil almost every other hand and wins the nils during a game and whenever I bid a nil and truly have one it gets busted. NOT COOL! Also, speaking of nils, WHERE IS BLIND NIL. 3. ✓ AI cheatsI’ve figured out why So many people complain about the AI in this game. At lower difficulty levels, the AI is fine - sometimes smart, sometimes dumb, but aren’t we all? At higher levels, the AI cheats badly, stacking its hands during the deal, and if you try to run a NIL and lose all hands, the AI is blatantly looking at your cards. I’ve caught it many times making super-human choices again the human player but bone-headed moves again the AI team. The developers seem to be stretching out the ranking levels to make diamond and above difficult to achieve, but all they’ve really done is make those levels VERY boring, as you are always playing very conservatively, low bidding and rarely taking risks, and still losing. What’s worse, your stuck with style of AI once you’re there. The “relaxed” games use much less potent AI and aren’t a challenge. The competitive games need at least an AI difficulty setting so you can choose what level works best for you. Also, remove the cheating entirely, the AI is pretty decent without it! ✓ Fun but quickly gets boringI had been looking forward to versions of hearts and spades that wasn’t full of ads and stupid in app purchase (what a curse you unleashed on the app store mr Apple) but the lack of useable setting or options and the inability to end a game start fresh is a royal pain in the sitting area. Or the first card down was different or you don’t have it. I played a spade (the other did not have one) the idiot to the right played a heart, then I played another spade then he trumped my spade .. This is a fun game but I notice there’s a lot of cheating going on .. the opposite team should not get all the “nil” or play what they wish to win. Out of the 10 positions I win may 3 games but lose all the rest .. ✓ For people who care so much about feedback…It seems like the app developers don’t listen very much. There’s plenty of reviews complaining about the AI in the game because the opponents will often have impossibly stacked hands if you do well, will somehow manage to have that one card lower than your last card on a nil bid, and will consistently bid 6+ between them. Meanwhile, your partner doesn’t bid well and actively works to win EVERY hand when an opponent bids nil. It’s not very intelligent AI and it makes the game unrealistic. After awhile, gameplay just gets frustrating because the other “players” feel too inorganic. If someone from the app team reads this, they won’t post a response below about how feedback “matters to us” and “please feel free to fill out more details at:” If so, it’ll confirm my feedback doesn’t matter at all..Version: 1.1.3
✓ Needs online playI had never played Spades before I downloaded this app, but once I started to get the hang of it, I’ve been really enjoying it. Would love to test my skills against human opponents, and not just bots. It really should be expected at this point that games like Checkers, Chess, and competitive card games have some kind of online matchmaking. If you’re a real spades player, save yourself the trouble and stay away from this app. Your teammate will consistently make plays that cost you the game and waste your time. Instead of playing off and letting your Queen win the book, they’ll cut you out. Instead of going for the set, they’ll play off. Taking a bag to set the other team is perfectly fine, and this AI does not understand that. Also the AI rarely ever gets the books they say they’ll make, forcing me to underbid lots of hands to compensate. Frustrating. Very nice interface. ✓ My parter is always an idiotFirst the positive. The UI is smooth and easy to use. The playing experience is great. Now onto the bad. I have played my way to Gold I level in competitive play and have done it against my partner’s attempts to lose. The AI logic is either severely flawed for my partner or else was written by someone that does not know how to play the game. Regularly my partner can have the A of suit, opponent leads the K and my partner throws a lower card to lose the trick. My partner then comes back with the A later only to lose it to a spade being played. Or my partner regularly bids 2+ points and fails to win any tricks. Or I will bid nill only to have my partner play the same suit 3-4 times in a row to draw out my high suit and make us lose the bid. Or I play a suit that my partner does not have several times in a game only to have them not trump (they have trump because it comes out later) even though the opponent has already played a higher card than me. At higher levels the decks definitely seem stacked as other mentioned as I see the same card patterns happening over and over. My favorite is having a perfect hand to go nill only to find out my partner has a single card in a suit that is 4 or less and the AI always seems to start with that..Version: 1.1.3
✓ Partner AI isn’t good enoughThe computer making obvious mistakes is fine, but the AI feels like it was cranked out rather than fine tuned. If I’m trying to go nil, and as my partner the AI has high cards in one suit and low in another, it should play the higher suit, not continue trying to to clear its suits out. I’ve been set on nil four times by partner’s mistake out 7 attempts. It’s frustrating. On several occasions I’ve also had my partner AI take a hand I was already winning on suit with a spade, then have none later when it would have helped us make bid. There needs to be some tlc applied if I’m going to play against an AI leaderboard. It’s a great game otherwise, like the visual design..Version: 1.1.3
✓ The Higher You Go, The Higher Your Partner OverbidsAt the top rank now (Grand Master) and this game has unfortunately become less enjoyable to play the higher you go. I have to underbid on purpose in hopes that the computerized “partner” won’t tank is by overbidding- it gets annoying to play several rounds with a 1 bid bc your “partner” will always more than what they actually have. How does it bid 5 with NO spades or higher cards, only numbers? And then, of course, it works against you when you’re trying to get the other team to break their Nil bid- that’s when your partner suddenly has every spade in the book. The other team always seems to have every higher spade, too, especially if you appear to be winning- all of a sudden it’s K,A,Q,J,10,9,8,7,6 (you’ll have the one spade, #5, if you’re lucky), 4,3,2 and you’ll lose. Or it’ll do Nil Bids the entire game- 3 or 4 Nils and it wins the game, and your “partner” is blocking your attempts to get them to break by outbidding your lower bid - it’s as if it’s on their team, too. And the messed up part is that your “partner” will have the cards to beat them, but it just plays them out of whack on purpose just to make you Lose- I had a “partner” that played its King, Ace, Queen and Jack AFTER the other team won their bids with lower numbered spades- and of course, we somehow lost, smh. ✓ Super Dumb AI partnerThe game is ok if you just want to be casual but the AI partner is so bad, I had to stop playing. The bot is unplayable bad-like over trumping you with their ace when they could have thrown off. Also—the scoring cheats. I have noticed multiple times. Your in a tie game, win by 60 points due to your team going nil but end up 70 points behind—and it’s not bc of bags. I have that turned off bc the game never tells you how many bags you have. What am I supposed to do? Carry a pencil and paper around to track bags? Lastly—don’t believe the developer asking you to help him/her improve the game. All s/he would need to do is actually play their own game to see multiple ways to improve it. This game isn’t going to be improved. There are lots of posts complaining about it..Version: 1.1.3
✓ DecentOverall it’s a fun game. My biggest complaint is just how bad your NPC partner can be. More than a few times there was an opportunity to prevent the opponent NPC from scoring by bidding Nil, and my partner NPC totally screws it up and lays down a higher card than the opponent NPC only to see a couple plays later there was a completely lower card they could have played to mess up the opponents nil bid. I guess it’s like real Spades if you select a weak partner. But if I had a live partner pull some of the bone head moves the AI partner pulled here, I wouldn’t ever pick that person as my partner ever again..Version: 1.1.3
✓ AI CHEATS!Great game but the AI cheats far too much at the Masters level and above. It swaps cards around and also makes your partner make dumb decisions that lead to losing or busting a NIL attempt. If you play a lot, you can easily see the pattern. Opponent plays Q. You play K. Opponents partner plays A. Like clockwork. Also, it intentionally gives you crap hands above Masters level and your partner will always overbid and not cover. Pretty dissatisfying way to end the tiered competition portion of the game. It was fun while it lasted though. UPDATE: The developer assured me the dealing is random. LOL!! I would recommend you play it. Anyone with a brain can see it's not random and the AI cheats. What is the fun in that?? Why do this?? Dumb….Version: 1.1.3
✓ Easily 5 stars if you fix the AII’m begging the developers, please fix the AI for the higher levels. The moves you’re partner makes are not just devoid of logic, it’s very obvious your partner is working against you too. Case in point, when behind and you have the cards to set your opponent then that should be the goal. Making it a priority to dump high spades especially when you’re already leading the set makes no sense. And the bids, especially when you go NIL and your partner bids last, that is not the time to be ultra conservative. Every time its 4/5 bags minimum. Go NIL twice and you’re right back where you started with the excessive bags. The only explanation is that the game is rigged this way on purpose. It does not make the game more challenging in a fun way, it just makes you want to pull your hair out. Again fix the AI to at least not have your own partner work against you and this easily becomes a 5 star game..Version: 1.1.3
✓ Needs more featuresFor an Apple Arcade game, this needs multiplayer. A monthly subscription to have to ability to play a multiplayer card game against computers is pretty lazy. Also, a forfeit option would be nice. I’m not trying to play out every game with CPU teammates that go nil for no reason and basically sabotage me every time I play a game. It’s a fine game, but it needs work. It feels like an average card game app with just a plus next to the name. TLDR: It’s not an Apple Arcade worthy game unless it has more features imo Edit: The AI needs some more work. They’re usually good but then will throw their ace of spades or a trick of a two of diamonds, a ten of diamonds, and an eight of diamonds..Version: 1.1.3
