BetterHelp - Therapy for Negative User Reviews

Therapists are absentThe app itself is fine, the journal feature is good, and the price for would be reasonable if the therapists on there were attentive at all. I’ve had two therapists late to appointments or missing appointments entirely because they had ‘emergencies’ or were at another job. I understand this is a side job for many therapists, but for the price you pay you’d expect some more care. As an Australian it was also not very helpful as all the therapists are based elsewhere, and time zones don’t match up well. I know that online therapy is easier for most, especially for people with anxiety. However it is much more worth while to spend your money and energy with a local therapist you can see in person..Version: 12.12

Sad it isn’t betterHonestly I had high hopes for this application. I was hoping it could be beneficial. But it too them too long to find me a therapist whilst charging me money. And then would pare me with someone in the exact opposite Timezone to me, meaning I would need to use it at very inconvenient times to myself which the app tries to tell you that it is meant to be at your own convenience. Furthermore the app is buggy when you try and update details and freezes if you try and change payment options or cancel your membership. I was really hoping this would be a helpful app. And for those it is helping I’m glad it is for you. But for me it just feels like another broken promise and another person taking advantage of me..Version: 12.18

DO NOT GETIn all honesty I can’t think of many things that are good about this app. I was told to go on here by my doctor because of social distancing and not being able to see a real counsellor. So I paid £150 for a month. I have been talking to a counsellor who has told me that I have anxiety and continues to ask me to fill out a form about how I can help myself. How I can change my thought process to not be anxious and depressed any more. If I could do that why would I spend so much money to get help 🙄. I reply within a good amount of time and complete all tasks I am told to do because I do want to get better and it take the counsellor almost 24 hours to get back to me! Then when I try to get onto the app to read the message I received or reply to it it locks me out and will not open up! Overall it is a bad app and defiantly not worth the money that it’s asking you to pay! Might as well look in the mirror and tell your self your smart. That is more help then the counsellors..Version: 9.6

Pricey for low quality careI don’t know if I just got one crazy outlier of a therapist but my therapist seemed completely unqualified and spit up all the trauma back into my face when I didn’t comply with her orders anymore such as take antipsychotics and take antidepressants and go to the hospital and do IOP and do this and that. She would ask inappropriate sexual questions, seemed to not understand why I was in therapy, do the bare minimum and repeat the same thing she did every single week and would constantly threaten to call ambulances and cops. It seems like this platform is good for crazy therapists like her who can jump from platform to platform and not have their name tarnished because they don’t answer to superiors they’re just freelance and can bounce any time they get a bad review. There’s a reason they’re not in therapy offices in town. This is $60 a week for the cheapest price and the therapist can just take a week or two off and not notify you and you still have to pay the $60 each week that you’re subscribed to this plan. They can also just fire you at any moment to and not give you any referrals and no notice. I feel like BetterHelp gets such high reviews because they pay people to write good things about them. I don’t know guys, I definitely wouldn’t recommend this app. You’re much better off finding a cheap therapist through your insurance, they’re probably much much much more qualified than they would be here..Version: 11.7

Horrible.Signed up a week ago. They told me 24HRS they would help me, they never did, and they charge too. Its not free..Version: 6.5

They just want your money they don’t care about your mental healthThey really just want your money and don’t care about proving safe and quality therapy to their consumers. I had a councillor not show up for 2 meetings in a row, which I was not refunded for! Also the therapy times offered to me were at like 0100 am or strange times. The actual therapist was good when she showed up and I could tell she genuinely wanted to help me. However, it’s still just therapy and sometimes you need a combination of DBT/CBT and medication to manage mental health struggles. This feels like a scheme to take money from desperate and struggling people and that is disgusting..Version: 11.5

>:(Apparently I’m not “ suitable for counselling” I guess I’ll just kill myself because I’m not even good enuf for this..Version: 7.0

Not enough availability or responsiveness from counselorsI like that the app is convenient to book sessions online but I find that I’m not getting enough interaction with counsellors throughout the week. I’ve have last minute cancellations/changes on scheduled sessions and I find booking a new counsellor often there’s not many sessions I can schedule within the next week. There’s obviously not enough counsellors or exisiting counsellors are accepting more patients than they can manage on a regular basis. For an app that claims to give unlimited counselling anytime anywhere, doesn’t feel like it. Paying for a subscription that I can barely make use of every week..Version: 9.7

Therapists ok, business model not for me.The therapist herself is really good I can’t fault that. However it was a big expense as it was, but £200 for 4 sessions felt ok. But, my therapist went on Holiday so I only got two 45 minute sessions for £200 before my next months payment, so I felt short changed. I’m going to try do the full 4 sessions this time but I will be cancelling after that. I feel like getting your full value in the month is quite hard to stick too and you book appointments out of necessity to get your moneys worth not because you feel you might need an appointment. I realise this is a business plan and they probably make their money when someone doesn’t book all 4 appointments but it’s too much money for me to lose out on. Would prefer to pay as and when I need it..Version: 13.1

Just noI should’ve known that as soon as i heard multiple of my favourite podcasts advertising BetterHelp, it was a scam (for the most part). My brother uses this app and has found himself a good counsellor. However, my partner downloaded this to find himself a counsellor to help treat his depression. He matched with someone and right away he got weird vibes. Halfway through their conversation, the counsellor asks him a question that was clearly meant for someone else. Without saying what he asked, he basically asked my partner a question about himself but got his sexuality, sexual orientation, and past history completely wrong… and i know my partner entered truthful information on the questionnaire. I’m not sure if he mixed up his client profiles or what but everything just seemed completely disorganized. Also, for the questionnaire, my partner was stuck on the questionnaire page for a long time that he almost gave up. One session and a complete waste of $170. Never again. Save yourself the time and money..Version: 11.7

RejectedBased on the answers to the questions they ask you upon signing up, I was sent an email the next day saying they could not help me. Didn’t even allow me a chance. Deleted my data. It’s a little disheartening as someone seeking help to hear “You’re too messed up for us. Sorry.”.Version: 6.0.1

How?Literally I’m stuck in an endless loop. It keeps putting me through the questionnaire and I just need to talk to someone. Please. I can’t get it to work, so that sucks. I deleted it and I’m looking for a new app..Version: 7.0

Great but pricyI have had better help from January 2023- October 2023. It’s been absolutely life changing. My therapist has been amazing, she’s helped me to totally turn my life around. I love the changes I’ve had come into my life as a result of Better Help. However they’ve just announced an increase of $10/week which is a huge jump in a short notice period. I’ve loved using better help & wish it were a bit more affordable. But when I was really suffering it was definitely worth the cost. Maybe I’ll try using Better help again in the future, as it worked so well for me..Version: 13.1

If you actually need support don’t get this appWhen going through the questions to see which one of their counsellors will be the best fit for you, if you say you are struggling with more than one thing or have gone through trauma, etc, they won’t help you but will recommend you seek face to face counselling. They would prefer offer you no support rather than saying we aren’t enough but here’s a bit of help. I personally wanted to try this as face to face counselling is just not an option for me right now, but got rejected. I’ve also found out that majority of their staff are not licensed counsellors or mental health professionals and it is up to you as the user to find out of your appointed counsellor actually has credentials or not. Definitely wouldn’t recommend..Version: 8.2

WASTE OF MONEY - Majority of therapists different zone to me and completely unresponsiveOnly after paying the full £200 monthly fee did I realise that any therapist I was matched with seemed to be based in US. First takes at least a day or two to even be matched to a therapist, during which I’m basically wasting money since receiving no service. Then most have a very full schedule and cannot book in live sessions unless it is the middle of the night for me, and takes very long time to respond to messages. Then if I unmatch to say I want a new therapist again I have to wait another 1-2 days. I understand it takes time for this to happen but they should change their pricing structure to when we’re actually able to use the therapy feature of the app. Otherwise it just feels like I’m wasting money while not being able to actually use anything..Version: 11.1

DisappointedI don’t understand why you would choose to promote this app using influencers who have a generally younger audience and not have it available for teenagers..Version: 6.5

Do not use this if you actually need help or are in AustraliaMost of the ‘therapists’ are just social workers, I don’t know why I expected any of them to actually be clinically trained.. i had one session before cancelling my membership and throwing the money down the drain because in that one session I went through my issues and the woman told me to ‘stop stressing’ - wow. She talked about herself and how she was ‘on vacation right now getting sunburnt’ and told me to just enjoy the hear and now. What ‘professional’ therapist would ever say that to someone suffering anxiety and depression? When I asked to change therapists and went through the list, all of them were based in America so their times to chat are in the middle of the night in Australia, they don’t tell you that.. Honestly I’m so disappointed with this and think it’s quite dangerous to advertise therapy to people who might be more vulnerable than me, and who may well be tipped over the edge of someone told them to ‘stop stressing’. I’ll be advising anyone I meet to never use this platform..Version: 12.11

Denied treatment without explanationI was proud of myself, reaching out again, and denied help, yet again. These people responded to my inquiry about assignment of a counselor with a straight up rejection. With no explanation, I am now here wondering what to do. This was the best choice for my lifestyle and they refuse to help. Please keep this in mind before you decide to download this app, being denied care is incredibly discouraging and I wouldn’t wish that on anyone that is struggling..Version: 6.5

Great app... but..I love using this app honestly, when I first used it I was skeptical because counseling wasn’t something that helped for me but the person I was first matched with didn’t work and then the person that came next she was perfect fit. She helped me out a lot, more than she may realize. I like that I have the option to set a appointment for live chat and or video chat. Being that I live with family and a lot of dogs who tend to bark a lot lol, this came in handy. The only issue for me is the pricing. I am a returning college student with many obligations to pay for (the adulthood stuff) who can barley make payments especially right now due to the pandemic. It’s super unfortunate that I’ve needed to result to ending my subscription TWICE maybe even three times now that I’m thinking about it because of needing more income in order to have access. they have offered financial aid for three months at a time which don’t get me wrong has HELPED tremendously but my suggestion is allowing us to do lower payments weekly and not having it be so high, maybe even the option to pay per minute on the chats or something unsure just throwing stuff out here. I’ve been struggling and wanting to get back into speaking with my counselor but have no way to afford it even with financial aid provided which is so unfortunate and I know I am not the only one going through these things right now— hoping that I can eventually come back and have the same counselor available..Version: 9.7

Algorithm needs improvement, there is no one size fits allVery good but only after I was able to select a counsellor that I felt I was more suited for. The algorithm it uses to match you up with a counsellor needs a lot of work. I think it would have been better if it matched you on what your issues were and what therapy you were looking for; in order that it matched you with the appropriate counsellor. Instead it matches you based on things like sexuality and religion. Which yes I think in some cases does indeed need to be something that should be a requirement that is voiced. However Had I not been given the opportunity to select a counsellor myself, I would have never been matched with the counsellor I have today; who I continue to sing his praises. He himself is beyond 5 stars and is a true rare find, even now it brings tears to my eyes to think how fortunate I am to have found him. I was so close to giving up and thought that nobody could help me as nobody would be able to understand or help me process things in the right way. I felt like I was just a complicated basket case and a mess that nobody had the time to untangle. I am blessed to have found him and I would give a 5 stars if he was the thing I am reviewing, but I am reviewing the Betterhelp app and not him today..Version: 9.7

Great app, great service, but it’s all or nothingI joined because I HAD to talk to someone and wasn’t finding anyone accessible in my city. Set up and joining was easy. I was able to start speaking with someone within 24 hours; maybe even 12. It’s been great having a therapist (of your choice) respond to my journal entries (if you choose), sessions in any form (video, phone, even text), worksheets to solidify what was discussed in therapy sessions. My therapist is respectful, listens, highly professional and I loved that she wanted to get my background before starting therapy; I really like her. My only complaint is the price of the subscription. Having unlimited access to all of these things and more is nice, $300 month is steep for me and most of society. I’m not going to be able to continue after this first month. They do offer financial aid, but still too expensive for my budget. I don’t necessarily believe their service is cheaper (about the same in my region) than what insurance could offer as they claim. I find unlimited access to a therapist is excessive, especially since my schedule only allows for sessions once a week. I feel like I’m being forced to pay for time/resources that aren’t being used. I wish they offered another “limited option” at a lower price point or accepted insurance (or allowed for reimbursement). I don’t like the all or nothing component of the subscription..Version: 13.1

Service itself is greatThe app is a bit slow and has a strange delay that makes it seem as if it’s not working?.Version: 12.18

Waste of time.I was told they couldn’t help me and I needed more. After filling out a very short vague questionnaire. Extremely disappointed they wouldn’t even give me a chance..Version: 6.4

Charging issuesI briefly subscribed to Better Help and was approved for a cheaper rate. I was matched with a therapist and scheduled an appointment which never went through due to scheduling issues on my part. I cancelled my membership within a few days, and I expected to pay the week even though I barely interacted with my assigned therapist, but was charged 120$ instead. Either they charged me the whole month in advance, or there’s some hidden fees. Regardless, if it’s a weekly fee, I don’t understand how they can charge for the whole month ahead without letting the user get a feel of the app and see if it’s a good fit for them..Version: 6.4

Declined me?I am about to start school so I don't have time to see a face-to-face therapist like it suggested. I would really like to be able to talk to someone here. It feels like something that would really help me. Please give my account a second look and accept me..Version: 6.3

DisappointedSo they say that they help everyone but every time I try I get turned down then the one time I did get in and I wasn’t able to pay I got fully cut off so I understand if you have a lot of money sure it’s probably great for you but if not don’t bother.Version: 6.4

Please can you make pricing clearer before you ask so many questionsIn the info it states plans range from $35 - which is great! Except when I filled in the questionnaire (some of which I went into personal details) the price came up as $65 - it didn’t explain why this is; could it be the type of therapy I need? It definitely needs to be more transparent. I regret having to put info in only to be put off by price - although it’s unlimited therapy, I’d probably only have time for one session a week. Based on this expectation $65 dollars is what I’d pay for a face to face meeting, so it doesn’t really save anything. While I think the concept is great and much needed, I think tempting people in with the idea of $35 dollars, asking them questions (bearing in mind they could be vulnerable) that are personal and then offering one plan at $65 (in the description it says “plans” - plural, so I was expecting options) makes you feel a little misled. Sure it wasn’t the intention but that’s how it came off to me..Version: 8.1

Very expensive. But cheaper and more convenient than other options. Before this app: It is very expensive to get a licensed professional therapist to help you, normally. There is also a great issue with convenience: usually you need to go to the counsellors office to meet with them in person. This app avoids those issues at least partly..Version: 7.0

Terrible service. Couldn’t even get my counsellor to book every week!So I end up pre-paying (to get the good pricing right?) and then get less than 1 session per week (because they will only let you book 1 appt at a time!!) because counsellor goes on vacation. So I ask for refund and they said I used all my time. I explained he wasn’t available and told me to go stuff it... Definitely a scam!.Version: 8.2

Not worth it!I wanted to try this app because I’ve read some good reviews about it. However, after I’ve paid $360, (that was already scary)I’ve expected it’s well spent money. I didn’t get a response until after about 12 hours. After writing everything down, what I’m going through and why I need help, all the therapists said was “thank you for reaching out to me, I’m here anytime you need, etc.” no actual help or support. I found out she is based in America, I’m in Australia, which I did not expect to get a “therapist” from overseas. After not hearing back for another day, I’ve asked the support to give me a refund, as I didn’t see this going anywhere. All I got back was $216 and they have kept my $144 for absolutely NOTHING!!! Not worth it. This just made me stress even more. All I needed was help, but I feel like this app is only to make money of desperate people. Avoid at any “cost”..Version: 12.12

FALSE ADVERTISING, SHODDY CAREThe main thing to know about BetterHelp is that it is not as it advertises. There is no 24/7 help from your counsellor, despite them expressly saying this is what they offer. Instead you can book a session with your counsellor a few times a week. Sessions range from half an hour to 45 minutes. If you try and contact your counsellor outside of your sessions they may or may not respond, but if they do it will essentially be fobbing you off and telling you whatever issue you’re having will be discussed in the session. I have no idea how they’re able to get away with such false advertising. It’s shocking. The therapists themselves aren’t helpful, the first therapist I had ghosted me without explanation after one session. The second therapist was hostile and unwilling to listen or understand. Therapy should be a safe space to share, and neither counsellors created this atmosphere. I do not recommend this service for anyone struggling with mental illness and looking for proper, consistent support..Version: 9.10

Was looking forward to using this app because I thought it was free. Was not free and there is a weekly payment of $45 USD to use..Version: 3.10

Breach of trust, worst service.Worst service - if I had to give an rating of 0 stars I would. Signed up, counsellor gave a total of 5 short generic replies after I opened up about my concerns. Had approached her about what our mutual expectations as per Better Health Staff advice since her replies were short, blunt and cold. I gave her the benefit of the doubt by persisted staying with her until out first scheduled video session. She did not turn up to the first counselling session scheduled 2-3 weeks after the sign up. Don't treat yourself any less. Go see a counsellor if you can. Would definitely not recommend if you are here to take care of your mental well-being..Version: 9.6

Don’t bother downloadingWould rate 0 if I could. 1. Rejects help completely if you answer the questionnaire wrong. 2. Takes too long to even reply once you maneuver around the questionnaire 3. Charges 45WEEKLY. How is this remotely “free” Total joke of an app..Version: 7.0

SUPER EXPENSIVE!! ONLY FOR THOSE WITH $$$ TO SPARE!The idea behind the app is great and I’m sure it would help many people. However, the pricing is seriously unrealistic. I was offered the “reduced” rate as I am unemployed and yet, it was going to cost me $90 AUD per week! I only receive $250 per week!! There is no way I would ever be able to afford $90 per week for counselling! I’m so disappointed because I truly believe that Better Help is a fantastic idea and has the potential to help many people... however, it seems they can only help you if you are a pretty high income earner and have plenty of $$$ to spare. It’s so disappointing to think of ALL those people out there, including myself, who are struggling mentally and are only holding on by a thread... those who really need help but can’t receive it because of the steep price. It’s heart breaking honestly. I like your idea... but I’m disappointed in Better Help for not making this very essential service affordable to the entire public..Version: 9.10

Be careful they don’t charge you $300I signed up for one month on better help for $60 and they charged my visa $300. This is ridiculous I just tried contacting support and OF COURSE you can only email them. Don’t subscribe!!.Version: 8.0

No…… JUST NOHas male therapists legit asking my friend about her boob size, trying to video call her without an appointment 10x in a row, after she picked up he was IN BED. Also confessing he “loves women of colour”. This man’s married and has like 5 kids. This app is repulsive. Being in Canada and having the therapists from the states you can’t do anything. You come to betterhelp for HELP, not to get MORE TRAUMATIZED..Version: 12.3

I’m depressed not stupidMy “therapist” just copied/paste some article she found online on depression and her spelling so bad she was hard to read. There is no way she studied to become a therapist. I google her name and found her linkedin where she says she’s an “entrepreneur”. Save yourself some time and avoid this app..Version: 6.3

Gave hope and took it awayYou fill out a questionnaire that even asks about your current finances, then connect you with a specialist who sends you a personal message on how they’ll help. I was so relieved to see a real person reaching out to me so I built up the courage to type an emotional reply and express my gratitude. However, they force you to pay an $80 weekly subscription BEFORE they will allow you to reply to the message. Not even a session, just a single MESSAGE. That’s with a discount for saying your finances are bad and using a coupon code from a podcast. Then to make it worse these discounts only last till your first payment comes out. It’s like a pay wall for the less fortunate, even after they say they can help. I’m desperate man, come on....Version: 9.7

$400/ month.Way to expensive for therapy.Version: 9.7

One star for one star. There really has been only one star of a better help for me so far and that’s my councillor. Unfortunately however during the epidemic I have moved to a night shift and our times are incompatible. You’d think moving to another councillor would be easy. But so far getting any form of reply other than a cheap Facebook bot that refers you back to emails that have all gone unanswered there is none to be had. All though I feel like I’ve been had. Currently I am paying for a councillor I can’t use. I have spent a months worth of a 6 month subscription and had 0 appointments. If I was to have an appointment though another 2 issues occur, firstly it’s extremely unlikely there is another session available the week after my appointment as it’s only once your appointment finishes can you check and book, these means “1 included weekly session” is a lie, it can’t be done currently. Simply a massive flaw. Secondly if there were appointments available they could be any random time from 1:00am to 12:00pm there’s no pattern to fit into a routine. I would happily rewrite this and praise BetterHelp if they were actually BetterHelp, hopefully some solution is made soon..Version: 9.6

THIEVES- WHO DOES THIS TO PEOPLE IN DIRE HELP??I barely owned this app for a week nor had a real session with my councillor and decided to end my subscription mostly due to not wanting help. You guys said it will charge $80/month yet I was charged $340 right away!!! We are in a pandemic and I am losing my career soon, have the decency of a human being and refund the outrageous price I never knew I’d be charged or ever wanted. What is worse is how my councillor called me Max instead of Mike when I asked about billing. Amazing service from “Betterhelp ourselves to your wallet”....Version: 9.9

SCAM DO NOT USEThis company is the biggest scam and will take ALL of your money without consent. They pay for fake reviews to make themselves look better and take advantage of those seeking help..Version: 12.18

How to make your mental health worse...I’ve never written a review of an app before but have had such a bad experience with this one that I felt I had to say something. It has taken me about 6 years of dealing with depression and anxiety before finally finding enough courage to try and get therapy. I thought, given the current state of the world, Better Help would be a good and flexible option. Wrong. The first therapist I was matched with did not provide video or phone sessions, only live chat. Not helpful as I wanted to actually speak to a person. All of her live chat sessions were also in the middle of the night in my timezone. As a result I waited another couple of days to get matched with a different therapist. This one at least offers video and phone sessions. Tried to schedule a session with her and can’t because I have to wait until she replies to my message. Two days later and still no reply, which means her next available session is now 2 weeks from now. I have asked for a refund. Obviously still waiting for a reply on that too. If you guys are struggling to cope with case load right now and don’t have enough counsellors to handle the volume of people needing help then why are you continuing to take new clients? You are literally capitalising on people’s poor mental health and making them worse. Thanks for reminding me why it’s taken so long for me to try and get help..Version: 9.6

Not worth itI downloaded this after reading 1000s of positive reviews because I was too uncomfortable to go to face-to-face sessions. It was an absolute waste of my time and money! The therapists are not from Australia so it took about 12 hours for a response and the live sessions are 10pm-6am. Their messages are not helpful at all; there’s a lot of quotes/sayings and “how can i help.” However, when you answer that question or try to explain how you’re feeling, it’s not acknowledged and basically ignored. I tried multiple therapists but it was exhausting having to reintroduce myself and my issues every time. I winded up feeling like I was being my own therapist…. so please, if you’re from Australia, DO NOT waste your time or precious money. Seek other free options like HeadSpace or via face to face therapy with a mental health care plan from the GP (subsidised)..Version: 12.11

IF I COULD GIVE THIS 0 STARS I WOULDLet me start off by saying, I was at a very low place in my life. My friend had recommended me to enroll in this therapy during the month of DECEMBER. She said it was super convenient because you could receive help in the comfort of your home, and at your convenience. At first I was skeptical, because I did notice it was pretty expensive. I convinced myself to invest in my health and proceeded to make my first payment and fill out my bio. After doing this, I noticed that it would take 3 days to connect me to a therapist. I then was able to see the session time compared with the price. I then decided to reach out to cancel the service. Let me make it clear that I’m not upset about the PRODUCT itself , it was my own decision to cancel. I am extremely disappointed in the SERVICE. It is currently March 14th, and it’s sad to say that after checking my email today… from 2 days after signing up for this I have sent over 20 emails trying to get my issue resolved. They have charged me over $1,000 for a service that I didn’t use. There is no phone number to call, only an automatic email that sends you in circles. I don’t understand how this is acceptable. THIS IS NOT “BETTER HELP” THIS IS “GOOD LUCK GETTING HELP, YOU NEVER WILL”. It’s sad that I had to report this fraud to my bank, and that my bank has to help me because no one could with “better help”. Think twice before you sign up!!! DO BETTER, “better help”!!!!!!!!!.Version: 12.12

Very disappointing startI’ve been thinking about going to therapy for a year, the first live session scheduled - the therapist didn’t show up after 20 minutes or send me any message before. I messaged her the day before with a suggestion / idea and she didn’t respond to it, it would have taken her a minute to address it and say, let’s just talk tomorrow instead. Anyhow. Other than that i was a bit disappointed too that there were only about 20 female therapists dealing with relationship issues, with almost all of them having only 4 years of experience. (Maybe over time as this may get more popular this will change). I think it’s probably worth a try, but for a therapist to not show up to a session, especially the first one, is not good. People might be coming here at the lowest points in their life and a therapist should be reliable, responsive and not make spelling and grammar errors in their first response to their client reaching out. Best wishes to anyone reaching out for therapy, i’m just leaving my review so they will improve their service :).Version: 13.4

Bad experienceI can’t really be bothered writing a review in general but because of the nature of the service the app provides I feel I should as it might help people who are already struggling with their mental health. I rated this two stars and only because customer service was so responsive and have said they will provide a refund. The experience on the app itself was not ideal though. I tried two therapists and both of them seemed to me to be sham artists. I’ll leave it at that. I cannot recommend this app and I’m not sure why there are so many glowing reviews..Version: 12.5

They steal your moneyDon’t sign up if you don’t really need help they will charge you 200$ as soon as you sign up..Version: 7.0

TerribleI’m an Australian client I couldn’t find the times that I was wanting they expect to give you the times in America you’re to figure out what the time is it in Australia the communications terrible you never get a straight answer you never get messaged back I’ve had to therapist I’ve paid for almost 3 sessions and I’ve had none I would not be recommending us I have 34,000 followers and I would definitely definitely NOT RECOMMENDAustralian clients or anyone that’s out of America the times are terrible what they offer I contacted admin three times before they responded which was an 3 to full day period I’ve messaged him again no answer I’ve messaged my therapist no answer just do yourself a favour and don’t use this app if you’re out of America I didn’t enjoy it at all would never ever recommend this 😒.Version: 12.10

It’s just about money, they don’t actually care.Seems like a great idea... but only if you have an extra hundred odd bucks to throw away each week and only if you’re not too messed up. So basically if you have money and life is not really that bad this is for you... they must be the people giving this horrible service a 4/5 star rating. For the rest of us that are living in hell after the year that 2020 was... well we are still on our own, but before they tell you it’s not actually affordable they make you fill out a whole lot of probing questions to trigger you right into your trauma only to leave you alone realising there is zero help on offer from this falsely advertised scam. Don’t waste your time. If you really need actual help and you are in Aust go and speak to your GP about getting a mental health plan. Many mental health professionals are still doing online sessions if that’s and issue and Medicare will make it cheaper than this stupid app anyway. I know this from personal experience. I hope you are ok and if you went through the questions process with this app you are not feeling worse now. You are not alone, even if these a***holes made you feel that way..Version: 9.8

“That sounds frustrating”You only talk to your therapist once a week. You can technically message them any time you want but be prepared to just get a “that sounds frustrating” back. Unlikely to use this service ever again..Version: 12.9

Advertied as free. It is not freeAll ads say this help is FREE. It is not free as soon as you sign up it changes you $180USD a month!.Version: 6.9

Great concept but difficult for Southern Hemisphere clientsI love the idea of doing the sessions from home (or anywhere) and my therapist was very helpful, but being in the Southern Hemisphere it was difficult to find a session time (I did 6.15am and then 4.30am), I didn’t want to change therapist, and I wasn’t sure if there is anyone registered in a more convenient time zone for me. Same with the groupinars, however I believe they are recorded and can watch later? I have to find this out. I am cancelling after 1 month only because of the scheduling difficulty, and also that I feel my therapist helped me enough so I could do some work on myself by myself… I will use Better Help again if I need it..Version: 12.5

ScamHaving being offered a free trial, which I took part in and had a great experience with my counsellor and it really helped me. They then straight away charged my card without any confirmation, which a subscription I never agreed to. I read the terms and conditions and this never is mentioned. I have tried to get hold of them but they seem impossible to contact. Not only have I not got a refund, but I am completely unable to cancel my subscription. It says cancel whenever you want, but this is not the case, you have to go through your counsellor to cancel, who had been very quick at responding to me but when it came down to cancelling subscription I have heard nothing from her. Therefore I am continually going to get charged because I still cannot get hold of them at all. Awful service, just money grabbers. If they hadnt been so greedy in terms of money I would have put a great review..Version: 3.10

DONT DOWNLOADYou answer all these questions thinking you’re actually going to get the help you need, then after signing up they hit you with the prices. At least put the prices first instead of getting peoples hopes up.Version: 12.3

TerriblePaid $320 for 4 weeks. Can only schedule in one counseling session a week, for half hour each week. Difficult to unpack much information in this short period. I wrote to the BetterHelp helpdesk for advice and they did not respond. Found the app a terrible waste of money..Version: 9.9

PricingI went through the whole signing up procedure and ticking the boxes of what I think I’m struggling with. All that emotional stress to be hit with crazy prices at the end. It gives an option for financial support but only gives you 25% off. Come on guys your working with people who struggle with mental health don’t put them through all that false hope…just put the prices at the start of sign-up..Version: 12.12

DiscouragingI was refused treatment for no reason and told to find counselling elsewhere..Version: 6.5

My Counsellor was on her phoneMy title legit says everything that needs to be said. I didn’t believe the reviews on YouTube where people talk about their experience with better help. They would say that their counsellors were on their phones and even driving... Well, turns out I need help with my life and I try better help (stayed for a month because I couldn’t afford the next months) and my counsellor is on her phone. I think she was scrolling Facebook. She was nice. I mean, I can’t lie about that. BUTTTT not only was she on her phone but she was also late at times to our meetings and not really adding anything new. Every meetings were the same and she would give me homework that would help a bit more than her meetings. Also, the last meeting, she forgot to show up... Therefore, I don’t know for any of the other people who tried this app but my experience was the same as the poor reviews on YouTube lol..Version: 9.8

For everyone who wants to use this platform (Better help), please read this!In their terms of service, they says that they tale no responsibility for the credentials of the councilours and is “Your” customer responito figure this out. What? Also betterhelp takes no responsibility if the councilers have suitable advice for you nor can guarantee their skills. Betterhelp takes most of the payment while councilers (if they are even councilers in the first place since betterhelp can not guarantee that) get way lower money than the customers pay. Please watch pewdiepie review video which he made about this platform..Version: 9.10

Don’t botherWent through the 10 minute sign up process hopeful that I was finally going to get the help I needed and I was hit with the ridiculous pricing at the end. Waste of time! PUT THE PRICING FIRST!.Version: 12.9

Don’t Install in New ZealandI’m in New Zealand and none of the therapists have any availability unless it’s the middle of the night or very early morning (I work full time). For an app that says it will work around your schedule, I have to strongly disagree. Requested a refund due to not being matched with or being able to find a therapist with hours that work in our timezone and was denied. Abysmal..Version: 12.12

UnethicalThis app says that it will charge you $90/week and charged end of 4 weeks but the minute you sign up they charge you the total upfront. Be careful everyone! It doesn’t matter if you’ve mentioned you’re a student and have no income. Simply unethical. Had they not done this, I would have probably used their service. But because of this, a person who is already suffering from sleep disorder and anxiety, is being put into more stress because of this process. All the other 5 star reviews are paid. Please check out the critical reviews. They do not lie. I’ve become a victim to this app. Please spare yourself!.Version: 12.3

Harmful for mental healthI saw my therapist twice. In the first session, it felt like she wasn’t sure what to say and threw out questions like “are you spiritual”. The second session, she showed up late and joined by phone instead of video. It sounded like she was doing other things. She forgot every single thing from the first session and just kept throwing out random phrases (like “are you spiritual” again). She then made some egregiously harmful comments. So bad, I hung up and cancelled the service immediately.Version: 13.6.7

My mental health is not your side hustleGot matched quickly, seemed like a good fit. My counselor showed up late to first appointment, repeated herself a lot, gave me incorrect information about how the platform works. After that, none of her availability was possible for me. She told me she would send work sheets to keep communication open until our next session. Sent nothing for days until I reminded her. Sent me a pamphlet on how to argue with your spouse, which was NOT an issue I was having. The hours of availability really seem like the counselors are fitting in extra cash after their regular jobs. Reading other reviews about people on the phone or in the car, I absolutely believe it. If you want to tough it out, be prepared to spend the first month ($$$$) just finding a counselor. I spent $420 for one 25-minute phone call because none of her appointments worked for me. She wasn’t paying attention to what I said and gave me incorrect info about how it worked. Very disappointing and extremely frustrating when I really just need help. Calling it BetterHelp, they should be sued for false advertising..Version: 9.10

ScamMy “therapist” actively made me feel worse lol.Version: 12.12

Absolutely horribleI was denied simply because my financial situation is poor. That is absolutely unacceptable I’m aware that this cost money and i was willing to pay any fees. THIS IS NOT PROFESSIONAL!! DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS APP IF YOU WANT IMMEDIATE HELP OR ARE STRUGGLING FINANCIALLY!!!!.Version: 6.5

HorridI signed up because I know I need counselling and I am not comfortable with people in person so I sighed up hoping to get help, I was recommend by someone high up on YouTube saying you were the best to go to, I am appalled you as a business say that I can’t get help because I don’t suit what you think of as needed help, I will never recommend you to anyone and I truly think you as people are discussing for turning people down if they are in need! You get no stars and I want anyone to see this go not install this, you aren’t likely to get in and you’ll have put in all this courage to sign up for nothing..Version: 6.3

Help for easy cases only?I was really one of the darkest periods in my life, not serious enough to go to the hospital but I really needed someone to talk to (about my chronic pain, anxiety etc, all stuff they gave options to check for help) and they turned me away. I understand they may be scared if something were to happen to me and they might be blamed but if it was someone without my mental strength I am concerned this would be a very bad outcome.Version: 6.2

Scam don’t download this appEveryone I recommended it to, the app said that they could not help them. I decided to try it myself and also got the same response. My boyfriend, my friends and I got declined from getting help. There are people who need real advice or guidance and they’re not getting it here..Version: 6.9

Scam$420 a month with no guarantee who many sessions you’ll get - I paid $420 and was able to get one session out of it. They advertise like $420 gets you four sessions a month, making each session less expensive than in-person therapy. What they don’t tell you is that you probably won’t find someone who is available for four sessions a month, so you will be paying more per session than if you attended traditional therapy. The quality of the counselling is also extremely varied, and for the price, you are almost certainly better off finding a well-reviewed licensed practitioner in your area..Version: 9.7
