Translate for Negative User Reviews

Barely functionalAstonishingly poor, and broken. Tried to use it for Spanish to English, but it fails on the simplest of words, e.g. translates the Spanish word “real” to “royal”, but the plural “reales” to “reals”… which simply isn’t even a word in English! The interface is abysmal… you have to swipe up to enter a new expression to translate… you can’t simply change the (very few) language options and re-type. Ok, it’s free.. but then so is Google Translate, which leaves this in the dust..Version: 1.2.1

Difference between Recognizing and Understanding My VoiceTwo stars for basic ‘ease’ of use - if only typing simple phrases for translation. The reality is - the most common use of language on a day-to-day, person-to-person basis is the spoken language. Apple products (namely Siri) have difficulty understanding the human voice when speaking English much less a nonnative language. Quite frustrating. It’s not just me. It seems to be a widespread reality. Siri is better at recognizing my voice versus say the blender. (And that, not always.) Understanding and distinguishing words is another realm beyond Siri. To date, any app within the Apple environment that uses or especially requires Siri is going to sadly fall well short of any expectations..Version: 1.2.1

I HAVE WIFI BUT DOESNT WORK!!!This is the worst app I’m using! I’m about to go to Japan next year but how am I supposed to use it if I DOESNT WORK??? FIX THIS APP NOW!!! I even tried downloading it but the app freezes so i am deleting this app!!!.Version: 1.2.1

Looks good but some very obviously flaws with the UI and functionalityApple say they put the user first meaning the UI and functionality is key to the company ethos. Unfortunately this App does neither well. Simple things like copy the text you have just translated is not easy. It is either difficult to select the whole text or it automatically kicks off the dictionary function (useful in itself but not when you are simply trying to copy the text). Needs a re-work and proper testing, by users, before this is the go-to translation App..Version: 1.2.2

N/AWhen selecting text to translate I get this issue: Translation is not available at the moment. Try again at a later time..Version: 1.2

Why would you include SPANISH 🇪🇸 & not 🇲🇽Apple, if you haven’t noticed yet do United States is not only closest and next-door to Mexico, but Spanish for Mexico happens to be the most popular spoken language in the United States after English. So why in the world would you instead include Spanish (Spain) and completely exclude Spanish (Mexico)!!❔ …. Or better yet simply include Spanish.(US)! You guys are so focused on the hardware that all of your software and operating system functionalities are completely going down the drain. This is not the Apple that we all knew and loved. What’s the use of having amazing hardware like super fast processors and cutting edge hardware technology, if your software and operating systems are going down the drain at a rapid pace?.Version: 1.2.2

No UkrainianWhere is Ukrainian as a language option?.Version: 1.2.2

AdvancementNot only hardware pls focus on software also no Punjabi language in internationl language but why hindi ? and only langugae should be able to detect language.Version: 1.2.3

Meh..The app was lacking with such little languages to choose from. The app doesn’t have the language I need to translate. I suggest Google translate for anyone who actually wants to translate anything..Version: 1.2.3

HorribleExtreme waste of space application. Completely unusable..Version: 1.2.3

Needs voice selection!Apple iOS offers an amazing selection of voices that I can download and set as default/preferred voices in many languages under iOS > Accessibility > Spoken Content settings, but this shockingly has no impact on the voice used to speak translations in this Apple-designed app. Why is this not aligned?!?!? If I want to use this app to translate and speak a sentence to someone in a different language, at a bare minimum, I want to use a male voice if I am male. But this app only uses female voices for speaking all language translations. There is no option to select a voice. This is absolutely frustrating given the voices Apple has made available within iOS. PLEASE make it possible to select which voice is used for each language. Or make the app use the default voice selected under the Accessibility Spoken Content settings for a given language. This would be VERY helpful for people with Aphasia or otherwise need assistance to speak. Very poor integration by software team not to include this flexibility..Version: 1.2.3

So much room to improveI think it’s by far the poorest user experience I had.Version: 1.2.3

Frustrating User InterfaceThe most simplistic part of this app is the ability to change languages to start a conversation. After that, everything becomes a chore: - Every feature requires two or three additional taps or interface selections, which often makes the experience confusing and leaves the user wondering what to do next. - App will often take an extended time to populate a translation, with no interface indication about the progress of the command that has been given. - Voice-to-text feature often will not populate a translation, and incorrectly continuing after ending voice option will erase what has been typed. - Selecting the text field to edit what has been written via voice-to-text, will often delete what has been written..Version: 1.2.1

Translate disappearWhen I type words and click okay all the words disappear. I have iPhone 12 pro and still the same issue. Hope to fix this issue soon because it is been like that a while..Version: 1.2

Works when it wants to work and it’s very frustratingWhenever I use this app, the microphone works when it wants to work. I click on the mic and the squiggly starts, but it will not interpret the spoken words and when it does, it’ll input the wrong word. I’m using Spanish to English translation and this has been happening for quite a while. Many many updates have been done on this iPhone 12 Pro and the same followed for the iPhone 11 Pro when I had it. When is the problem with translation going to get fixed?? I’m trying to use it for my college homework in Spanish. I have to resort to google translation, but sometimes I just want to use my phone with the app that came with the device..Version: 1.2.1

Offline mode just doesn’t workWhen the app works, it is actually pretty good. The integration with iOS is nice, and the quality of translations, even offline ones, is pretty good. But, the offline (on-device) mode has some serious problems. It used to work most of the time, but there has always been a problem where it insists on re-downloading the dictionaries. Now, it has recently decided that it can only download one dictionary. Attempting to download a second results in the first being deleted, and there’s never a point where it actually functions correctly. Even when it used to function, it would demand downloading a new copy of the dictionary at inconvenient times. Do you want to right click on some text for a web page or in an email and translate it? Great. One time. The second time, it demands downloading the dictionaries again. And it does this over and over so that the app is essentially unusable offline (which is where I value it the most). Finally, the support link on the store page is a joke. It just takes you to Apple’s generic support page for its devices. Nothing about the Translate app at all. No place to file a bug report. No place to seek assistance for it. This app should be great. When it works, it is great, but it’s completely dropped the ball on the little things which are so vital to making it work consistently and, therefore, usefully. I guess it’s back to Google Translate until they fix this..Version: 1.2.1

ClunkyYou should be able to easily switch / swap languages to get definitions for each language. Also, the delete function (to easily start writing a new word for translation) should be much easier. Currently it involves going back a step and manually deleting. With Japanese, you can’t get a hiragana translation when entering a kanji, only the English translation. Sometimes you want to know how to pronounce a word in both languages. Frustrating C’mon they’re evil, but just copy Google’s translate app..Version: 1.2.2

Terrible appThis app was auto installed on my phone with the latest update. I already had Google Translate and let me just say, Google Translate is SO much better! This app is not at all easy to use and it cannot instantly translate written words the way Google does. I hadn’t noticed right away that there were now two apps on my phone for translate. At first I had thought this was an update for Google Translate and I was so upset because I thought I would be lost in a foreign country unable to understand anyone around me. I was so thrilled when I finally figured out that Google Translate was still the same. I promptly deleted this app from my phone and will NEVER download it again or attempt to use it again..Version: 1.2

It’s horribleEvery time when I want to type something, it took 2 second for the window to pop up and another second for keyboard to comes up. though it doesn’t sounds like a big deal but it really is. This animation is rubbish it’s totally wast of time. It’s just not smooth at all very irritating. It’s so stupid that it won’t let me use dictation, the microphone is not on the keyboard. It’s making me to exit the keyboard and close the typing pop up and click on that microphone button. And the animation is soooooo slow like it’s stucked, it’s such a nightmare to switch between different functions or just do anything at all 😡it might sounds like I am overextended but I am not. It really is driving me crazy when I have a lot of work to do I just don’t have time for this completely useless time wasting slow as hell animation..Version: 1.2.2

Doesn’t workOnce it goes offline (even with language downloaded) it doesn’t work. None of the fixes are of any use either.Version: 1.2.3

It doesn’t even work, worst app.Can’t even translate a monkey..Version: 1.2.2

Is it the same developer that worked on Apple GPS?I agree with many comments below. How can you Apple install an App that works barely. And you don’t seem to answer the reviews bad or good???.Version: 1.2.3

Empty outputDoes not translate at all..Version: 1.2.3

Not worth wasting ur timeThe language I wanted to translate wasn’t even on there!💀(honestly a rip off of ggl translate).Version: 1.2.3

Can’t change language backI changed the language to French and then I couldn’t find out how to change it back to English.Version: 1.2.2

Irrelevant Auto detected languagesWhen using “tab” to translate word from web page, it detects the irrelevant languages. I could manually “change language” to set the original language and translation language, however, they’re not saved in the history, so every time I use Apple Translate( App & web page function) I’ll have to reset both original language and translation language. Such a pain to use..Version: 1.2.3

Not working on 11 pro maxThis app is not working on 11 pro max since I updated iOS to 15.Version: 1.2

It used to work...And now the app freezes, with no way to delete an entry or change the language selected. What gives?!.Version: 1.2.3

Terrible appLiterally the worst translate app ever, only a handful of languages to chose from and no “translate from detected language” option. No happy since apple wont let me download google translate either I’m beyond mad.Version: 1.2.3

Would like to help improve this app (Or maybe learn how to use it correctly?)I am fluent in English as my first language and intermediate for Spanish. Over the past year or so, I have been trying to use this app to translate words and phrases from either language into the other. Somehow, I cannot seem to master progressing (speak or Txt/type) from one language as translated into the other as the only two selected languages for my app (IOS). The Spanish “Introducir texto“ does not yield me English and vice versa for the “Enter text for English needed translations from Spanish. Also, very often I cannot even find the microphone when I open the app forcing me to enter needed translation material by texting. Might there be a set of instructions somewhere that will perhaps show me how to correctly use this app—if I am indeed using the wrong protocol for operations? JCS-MD.Version: 1.2.2

Not a great appWhen compared to Google Translate this app does very poorly, when you are to type something in it will autocorrect back to English - or whatever language your keyboard is in - which when you are translating from another language is ver frustrating. It doesn’t have many languages, and again in this time in the world you probably should be able to translate into other languages than just Spanish and German. So when trying to translate a conversation I would strongly recommend Google Translate over what looks like Apple’s cheap rip off of Google Translate..Version: 1.2.1

Add more languages. This app is severely lacking in different types of languages. I’m moving to the Cook Islands in November and is currently on a flight to Niue to go see some relatives of mine. I never learnt my native language so I thought this app would help my problem, it didn’t. There are no pacific languages at all and it disappointed me. Fix your app Apple..Version: 1.2.2

Persian (Farsi) has 150 million speakers but Farsi is not there how pathetic!Persian also known as Farsi, Dari, Tajiki and Hazaragi spoken in 5 countries around the world which has around 150 million native speaker is not there only a few languages are there for Apple is a big shame and pathetic. When I first saw this app I was very happy oh finally Apple has created a translate app for IOS users but finding out Persian is not there made me really sad. You can do better Apple..Version: 1.2.3

Doesn’t show or read aloud pronunciations. As such, it’s pretty useless. If I want to know the word for “translate”, it doesn’t help much getting “翻訳” as an answer unless I know the reading. If there were hiragana or a robotic read aloud voice, which apple already has made, it would be fine. I don’t understand why they don’t just add it since you can use a huge variety of voices to read text using the speak aloud accessibility function. So as it stands, the app is kinda poor quality.Version: 1.2.3

Almost unusableThe UI of this app is so bad. The translations are fine, and I would like to be able to use it as it integrates nicely into the rest of iOS, but selecting the languages is laborious and counterintuitive (the app seems more concerned about maintaining the history of what you have translated rather than helping you translate things), and the lack of an option to switch the two selected options over is ridiculous..Version: 1.2.1

Just not Apple likeThis is a terrible application. The use interface is extremely unintuitive. Switching between languages takes four taps, compared to just one in Google Translate. If you do not select the correct language first, you cannot select it and then translate, you have to re-enter the text. Text cannot have line breaks, hitting enter performs the translation. One you have translated a string, you can edit it, but pressing translate then reverts to the previous string. Completely un Apple like..Version: 1.2.1

Good translations, but missing Roman readings of JapaneseThe translations for Japanese seem to be of a more nuanced understanding than Google Translate, which is great. However, it doesn’t help me with reading/speaking the translation, as I can’t read Kanji/Hiragana/Katakana (yet). One feature of Google translate is the subscript of the translation in Roman characters allowing me to read the phonetics and learn the words. Please add this here too! I also prefer the way Google Translate switches the translations with a single tap, enabling a quick check to see how the text translates back into English. This app requires a copy and paste, then language swap..Version: 1.2.3

UnusableGiven all Apple stands for in the way of perfection in app design (still no iPad Calculator…) it honestly amazes me that they put this clearly flawed translation app out. One of the most important features of a translation app should be to be able to choose an input and output language but I am unable to do this. I can click on a langue on the list but the second I type in the input box it reverts back to a previous selected language. Even closing and restarting the app is not clearing this issue and I so I am left with an app stuck translating German in to English. Another major flaw is the lack of a “swap” language button to allow you to quickly swap the input language between the pair of languages you have previously selected from the drop down list. I muse that the only way such bugs can persist in this app is that no one at Apple uses this app… From my perspective, the only benefit compared to Googles Translate is the size of the app but I think that’s only due to stunted functionality. Please improve..Version: 1.2.1

FrenchThere should be French Canadian loaded not only Paris French.Version: 1.2

It’s… alright, but-Why, oh why is there not a ‘switch’ option? If I want to go from Spanish > English to English > Spanish I have to scroll through the entire list of languages twice. That is literally the most basic feature of any translation app, why is it missing from this one?.Version: 1.2.1

A lot of potential. This app has a lot of potential to be a 5 star app, but it needs a lot of features. 1- It needs a quick language switch button ↔️ that swaps the two language into each other’s positions. 2- needs a camera translator like Google Lens. 3- Automatic language selection. The app should understand what language I’m typing in, and use that as the language to translate from. 4- I love the ability to quickly translate words using a long press. I wish the feature gets merged with the Lookup/Dictionary feature and allows users to see definitions and translations at the same place..Version: 1.2.1

Good app but has some issuesTranslate by Apple is a great app but has room for improvement. They need more languages to translate to as they only have a couple dozen currently. Using the app off the internet makes transcribe mode disabled, which is very annoying, but definitely not as annoying as the new bug which comes with the new iOS 17 update. With iOS 17, the overall layout of the app has been changed, which is not that bad, but there is a new bug when typing in letters to translate, they lag a few seconds before actually being typed in. This is TERRIBLE, considering it makes the app just laggy and unusable. But it is convenient when needing an app to translate with and therefore, although trying to decide between 2 and 3 stars, I put 3. Good app ig.Version: 1.2.3

Updated IOS and now my download languages Māori and Hungarian are not availableUpdated IOS and now my download languages Māori and Hungarian are not available.Version: 1.2.1

Where is Hindi?531 million people speak Hindi where is that language on the list? App uninstalled.Version: 1.2.3

Only 18 Language???For an Apple software application, this is just pathetic. My family’s language (Danish) is not there at all nor am I able to add it at all, AND ITS AN ONLINE SERVICE. It’s not even a matter of hardware limitations or saving storage space, it’s just simply a software choice or an ineptitude. This is seriously a shock that Apple would gate-keep pretty basic functions to only specific nationalities; when they are more than capable allowing for more languages. But instead they’d rather pile their money into completely wasted aesthetic features. Because that’s more important to them than supporting unprejudiced accessibility..Version: 1.2.3

LightweightDoes not cover enough languages. I tried but still need other apps to cover my travels. That means I will use the one with complete coverage. Disappointing due to time it has been available.Version: 1.2.1

Terrible translationsAfter a while of trying to use this with studying Spanish I started getting suspicious and started double checking everything with SpanishDict. To put it nicely at best the translations are obscure or secondary (or tertiary). Nada bueno. Just one recent example: I was just listening to a song with the phrase “no te fallo”. I looked it up on Translate and it said “I won’t let you”. Well that was not convincing grammatically for in the context of the song. SpanishDict results gave me “I don’t fail you”. Yup, that fits. I was going to rate two stars but really what is the point of having a translate app you can’t trust. Extra disappointing since it’s Apple’s stock translate app. I would rather prefer using native apps… as long as they were arguably the best - or even worked! Disappointingly, unlike the Google translate app, there is not even a place for suggesting corrections, reporting errors, or any community input, nor are there any possible alternative meanings/ results suggested (in case of multiple possible meanings or in cases when it might be wrong)..Version: 1.2.2

WeakApple engineers really need to use google assistant and translate. Apple's machine learning is joke level..Version: 1.2

Ok but a bit lacking in many areasStrange that Apple would invent widgets for ios but then not create them for their own apps. To get a good translate widget I have to use google??? I use it mostly for translating between English & Japanese. So having no Romaji option seems odd when most English speakers that still need to translate Japanese are unlikely to be able to read native Kana (hiragana / Katakana) & even when you tap on a kanji it only gives you kana in the dictionary. Fortunately I can read Kana but many travellers etc would be left in the dark by this app.Version: 1.2.2

Language addPlease add Punjabi language.Version: 1.2.3

Ms FMBI feel like in this western society to many languages are ignored and there needs to be more cultural representation languages and having one tribes languages but not the others. Also Afrikaans is a language that comes up a lot but they AfriKana people actually came into the southern parts of Africa and oppressed the people Afrikaans is not the only language spoken there. Ndebele, Shona and Khosa a just some of the few. These apps need more representation of languages..Version: 1.2.1

The UI is weirdAt first it looked so minimal i thought their wasn't any pinyin for the Chinese. Then I found the book icon to see more information. But you have to tap the Chinese word to see more detail of that word, otherwise you're just seeing the definition of the word you already translated into. iOS 14 I could translate straight from safari. Or iBooks? I can't remember anymore. This one has so many buttons I'll just stick to Pleco and google translator..Version: 1.2

Needs copy functionThis app desperately requires a function to copy translated text. It should be obvious that users will use this app to translate long pieces of text and trying to select all text is an exercise in frustration. Instead the dictionary function which is not always relevant keeps popping up and needs to be dismissed. Apple please finish the job. Edit: copy function is finally finally added. Took long enough. But now when I dictate a text to be translated, it stops after the first sentence and doesn’t let me add further. I either have to start all over again or create another translation for the second. Why not just keep the text box open and translate in real time. Please just copy what Google does. I’m doing my best to give Apple apps a try..Version: 1.2.3

Its badThere are too many languages not represented in this app including my iwn natural language, disappointing at best, im downloading google translate.Version: 1.2.1

Can’t translate Arabic to EnglishIt only can translate English to Arabic when I need to translate Arabic Messing with my plans to go to Egypt the worst translator in the world Zero stars hate hate hate hate.Version: 1.2.3

A CHILD COULD TRANSLATE BETTER 🤣🤣This app = ☠️☠️☠️☠️ I mean is is accurate? Most of the time NO. Whenever i put in something in Japanese it is most of the time wrong in mean do you even know the meaning people who did Japanese? I want to also point out how the microphone thing is USELESS. When i use it it never comes out the way i say it. I mean you should get rid of that option. I also wan to say i speak Japanese so i know it this is right or wrong. When i did use this i thought “ WOW these people are really DUMB!!!!!” As for now i still do think that. Though i may be a mere child to me kids knowing more that the people who made this app feels like i am smarter than the people who translated Japanese to english. Sometimes me and my little brother would make fun of this app for being terrible at it’s only job it has: translating. I am a type of person who don’t like it when people get the translation wrong as to me they might of said something that could insult me. Must I add I hope the people who owns or programs this app see this and hire a person who knows the language of what they want to translate this. If they did do that DO BETTER!!!! I child for goodness sake it smarter than the app. Also the app is like 0 is has NO PURPOSE.I hope they update this due to how unreliable this app is..Version: 1.2.3

ゴミですThat’s Japanese for it’s garbage. I got that from Google translate, which also told me it’s “Gomi desu”. The spoken translations are rapid and hard to catch, and the kanji/kana translations don’t help much unless you can already read it … in which case I wouldn’t need the translator! Same problem for other languages that don’t use the standard A-Z (1/2 of those supported!) BTW why can’t I control the app volume with the buttons? They only change the ringer volume!.Version: 1.2.1

UGH!C’MON FIX YOUR TRANSLATING!!!!! ADD UKRAINE FOR THEM! FIX CHINESE {BOTH!} H UGH HOW CAN APPLE SHIP THIS!!!!!????.Version: 1.2.3

MehIt's good and all since it has the languages i need, but it lags as hard as a video game. it's hard to translate when it's laggy, so yeah please fix this. I dont expect a reply to this review but if you did that would help since i would know that the message was actually read by the team. TL;DR: just fix the laggyness..Version: 1.2.3

Pretty badOnly gives a single option for a translated word? Yet another app that I have to go to Google for. Thanks Tim..Version: 1.2.3

App Is Completely Broken!I don't usually leave reviews, but felt the need for this one. The app is completely broken and no longer functional. I used to use it regularly, but now it no longer works. Tried the usual "bug fixes" of restarting, reinstalling etc... No change. When used to translate highlighted words it constantly defaults to US English despite my only installed language being UK English (since I'm from the UK - go figure), and will not translate to the desired languages. When using the app itself none of the buttons work, and when typing words it just doesn't translate. Absolutely amazed this is still an "active" app that's able to be downloaded..Version: 1.2.2

Almost there.First thing to note is that I haven’t used any other such apps. Seeing as this one comes with iPhone, and I don’t travel often enough, I don’t see a real need to have more than this one. In real use, it serves its purpose well enough and helps me cover the basics when I need to. No substitute for actually learning a language, but that’s on me…and I’m trying to. Anyway, one very useful feature that is missing is the ability to do a one-button swap of the languages. For example, I largely use Translate to go from English to Spanish, but sometimes I need to go from Spanish to English, and it would be easier if there was a quick way to swap the languages (and revert back) without navigating both of the drop-down menus. You know like if you’re booking some form of journey online and you have a departure/destination point and if it’s a return journey you click one button to reverse the journey…? Something like that. If that feature already exists, I haven’t found it..Version: 1.2.2

Are you sure this is accurate? Plus not enough language optionsLook (sigh) i want to like this, but tbh i don’t think this app is even accurate, i typed stuff in Japanese and Korean and Arabic because I was curious (English US is my native language)and when typing in random characters, I tend to get some…wacky results, heck sometimes I get the same wacky results when typing in completely different characters of the same language. I decided to test this app. I typed in سخيامبسنطصكيض on this app and Google translate, your app gave me “Scheyam, I’m going to sleep” but Google Translate gave me “Squishy Snacks” I then typed in another translation and the same thing happened, major differences in results. I trust Google more as their translations seem to be more accurate and make more sense than this wacky app, plus the reviews suggest the same thing. Also there is a severe shortage of languages on here! I’m Portuguese as my ancestors and grandparents come from Portugal (Azores) and I wanted to learn more, but this app, like most, offers only Brazilian Portuguese, and both have differences in words and dialects. I also heard that many on here want Hebrew and Latin American Spanish on here, I also agree that those should be options. What about Udru (the second most spoken language in the world) what about Swedish? What about Polish? Finnish? Heck where is Mongolian? 1 star, very dissatisfied. (Will use this app as a joke only).Version: 1.2.2

Randomly deletes textUpdate December 2023: Why is it harder to use now seriously. Now you have to click the Dictionary button to get to the most useful part (noun genders) which takes more clicks than in previous versions of this app. It offers a swap button finally, but only if you haven’t hit Enter yet. And lastly, once you hit enter, you have to scroll way up to see the actual translation you wanted. It’s just even more frustrating at this point. Original review: I like that this translator app shows you the genders of nouns but absolutely hate how practically every time I use it I have to enter the text at least twice because the app will randomly delete everything I entered. It does it just unpredictably enough that I forget it does this and it drives me crazy. It’s the buggiest iOS app I’ve ever used..Version: 1.2.3

Needs more languagesPlease add more languages..Version: 1.2

No ability to copy text to another app - such as an Outlook emailThe app needs an ability to copy the translated text to the Clipboard, to allow it to be pasted into a text messsge - e.g. an SMS or email. On my iPhone with iOS 16.5, I tried quickly tapping the translation theee times, to copy the whole paragraph - unfortunately that didn’t work (KymY in Darwin Australia).Version: 1.2.2

Use to be great…now very poorThis app use to be brilliant and have so many useful features - it is now extremely rudimentary and beyond basic. What happened?.Version: 1.2

What a Disappointment! Doesn’t Work Offline AnymoreAfter recent 16.4 update this app stopped working offline. Doesn’t matter how many times you try downloading languages, deleting App ENTIRELY and reloading, or whatever else you can come up with. You get “Translation is unavailable at the moment. Try again at a later time.” Disappointing that Apple can’t even get their own App to work on their own iOS operating system. Especially something as simple as a translator which is nothing more than a few relational databases (call them dictionaries if you want) interacting. AI taking over the world on one side, Apple trying to make their own Apps work on their own system on the other. No way Steve would be pleased is all would venture. UPDATE: Few Days after iOS upgrade the downloaded offline languages are working again. Very glad to see and have changed the 1 star to 3 and crossing fingers going forward..Version: 1.2.2

Poor speed, waiting for improvementI’m sure it’ll improve with time, but currently the speed of translation when your internet connection is spotty (aka, anywhere abroad) is unusably slow. Note also that you need to download both the target and the source languages for it to work offline (weird it doesn’t automatically have English or whatever the phone is set to initially; that’d be a no brainer). Often times it’ll just show a green bar on the translate part, or just say “translation unavailable “. My main use has been while in countries with languages other than English, so speed is basically required. Will be switching to other apps for this trip, but I hope Apple improves this (easier to use built in normally)..Version: 1.2.3

Doesn’t work at allNo matter what I try to get this app to work, it remains completely inert and non- functioning. Rather underwhelming..Version: 1.2

Zero Stars…This app barely works. The translations are almost never correct and they only have like 10 translations options. Whenever I use a word or phrase indicating a gender it always uses the opposite gender. So if the phrase or sentence I want translated mentions “her” it always translates to “him” and vice versa. Also when I go to translate something, it always takes like a minute before it plays the translations. It also crashes and when it does, when I try to open it again, I’m greeted with a blank screen and I can’t do anything after that. For like several days. I have to uninstall it and install it again which has me start all over again. I don’t like how other apps require to purchase add ons. This one is free but adds nothing to the experience. I might as well just pay for the extra stuff on other apps. I think this app came with the update. Much worse than competition, missing many languagesThis underfed and orphaned Apple app is clearly a low priority. It totally fails compared to the competition, like Google translate and Microsoft translator in both the features, and the number of languages supported. It's too bad because it is integrated into ios, it would be nice to be able to use it. What makes it particularly infuriating that, when you select text in some app, you have an option to "translate" which would be oh so convenient - except then it says the language isn't supported. So, then you are stuck with having to copy and paste into either Google or Microsoft translators, which takes many unnecessary extra steps..Version: 1.2.2

Short of a heap of languagesDescription is missing at least 4 languages. The fact I can’t download 3 of the languages I want is a pretty poor effort..Version: 1.2.3

HebrewHow about Hebrew!?! Apple Israel is celebrating a decade of activity this year. It currently employs about 2,000 workers in its development centers in Haifa and Herzliya; Friedman revealed that 350 of the workers were brought on as a result of acquisitions of Israeli startups and the rest joined thanks to organic growth. "Why did Apple come to Israel?" Friedman asked, "The answer is clear: innovation and creativity. If you are looking for a place where you can find a high concentration of very good engineers, like those who you see in Apple, Israel is the place." When asked about how Apple Israel addressed the issue of diversity, Friedman said that relative to Israeli high-tech, Apple is in the highest percentage of employing Arab engineers, and Orthodox women and that the company continues to work to increase inclusion withdifferent programs they initiate..Version: 1.2.3

Try Google Translate!! (It’s better)This app is nothing compared to Google Translate. After reading this title you may be wondering, what is do bad about this app?? Well first of all it’s translation is horrible. The only good languages that the app does best is English and Spanish. I would prefer Google translate rather than “Translate” because they do not support different kinds of languages. Like Spanish, it does support it but only the Spain version. Please add more I know it’s a lot but it’s one of the many problems this app has. And not to mention but whenever you talk into the microphone it translates a completely different thing! Please fix, again, one of the many problems this app has. Try Google translate!! It’s a way better app for translation..Version: 1.2.3

Google translate is betterGoogle translate is better because it has a switch button and more languages.. if I were to try and find Dutch or Vietnamese or Ukrainian on this app I can’t whereas google translate has a lot more languages.. your better off just using google translate than this app.Version: 1.2.2

I have to rely on google translate…I am a permanent resident of Baja California Mexico. I do not speak Spanish fluently and occasionally need to look up a word or two in translator. That being said, it is very incorrect with certain phrases or other idioms. Spain Spanish is very different then Spanish (Mexico). Most of the time I use it (used to use it) I would get strange looks and have to go to google translate for the person to understand and I resent that because I HATE google. Please address this. Because Spain Spanish is very different. Also the translations are often incorrect. But, it’s gotten better since the app came out. Another thing I don’t like is when dictating speech and you pause for even a couple seconds it stops translating and you cannot edit it. It’s very frustrating especially if you need to think of a word to say..Version: 1.2.3

Bro💀I’m an Apple user and I can’t even get Ukrainian, Canadian French etc. add more languages💀.Version: 1.2.2

My problem with the appAs someone learning a new language I️ use this app to often translate something from my target language into my native language. My problem with the app is that if I️ want to translate something from the target language into my native language and I need to hear the pronunciation of the target language I️ am unable to do so because the app only provides audio translation for the translation itself. If I️ then try to reverse the translation where I type the word from my native language to my target language then I️ don’t always get the exact translation of what I’m looking for and therefore can’t hear how something is pronounced. I️ wish there was an option to hear the audio pronunciation for what you’re translating and what’s been translated..Version: 1.2.1

Awful UIThere are a lot of problems with the interface. A big improvement would be to add a toggle between languages so you can switch easily between language A and B..Version: 1.2

OkI think this app is ok there's not much wrong sometimes I'll try to play roblox and there I'd spanish people and I use this half of the time they don't even know I speak English. there is not a lot of language options though, and talking in person with this DOES NOT WORK so I don't really recommend this app but it's not super bad..Version: 1.2.3

Not good enoughThis as app is not as good as Google translate. I spent 3 minutes and saw it didn’t even have a quick toggle between your primary languages which is something I need to do all day in Brazil with Portuguese and English. Deleted.Version: 1.2.2

How can apple ship something like thisCome on apple. Fire whoever thought it was okay to ship Translate in its current form. My partner and I had a trip to Montreal and were sadden to know that this app just does not work one bit. Going to Twitter I also got responses saying it doesn’t work. How can a trillion dollar company ship something that just doesn’t work? Come on , with billions of dollars pouring in you can’t afford to have a working Translate app, that’s built on to iOS by default. Do better . Do better..Version: 1.2.1

Not up to standardsI’ve been using this app now for a few month, English to Hindi and it doesn’t work well. Photo translation is not working as it doesn’t recognise any letters and voice translations is also very temperamental, with a lot of mistakes when recording. Plus multiple ads popping up whenever you open the app is not useful at all! I would give zero stars if I could..Version: 1.2.2

Incorrect translationsTried translating Japanese text and it told me it was Spanish and not Japanese. 日本人 and Español don’t even look anything like each other….Version: 1.2.2

Do Better!OK First, ADD MORE LANGUAGES! There are many people including me who need more. Second, crashes it’s so annoying it won’t work. Finally, can’t switch languages just stuck. I hope you guys improve it. Pl’s not let five minutes in this be wasted..Version: 1.2.3

Not many languagesWhen compared to Google Translate, this app doesn’t have a large quantity of languages. Sure, it might be more accurate then other translating apps but it feels like there are barely any languages to translate to and from. This app has been up for such a long time yet it has barely and languages to work with, disappointing. To sum up, I would like to say that you have to add more languages..Version: 1.2.2

Needs more languagesAnytime I go into this app I just am trying to find a language like for an example Maltese or Hebrew it just doesn’t have them and really that’s all otherwise it’s a good app. I downloaded another translation app and it has like all the languages you could possibly think of. I only downloaded this in the first place just to annoy my family and friends by texting in languages they don’t understand. When I downloaded the other app, I realized it had way more languages so I really don’t use this app anymore this app is really just for if you are in another country where you can’t understand there language. Otherwise this is a good app..Version: 1.2.2

SucksApple what is the idea of a translate app when it doesn’t even work? You release an app that people are hoping to be able to use especially when in a province of another language and it doesn’t work at all. Way to really mess up!.Version: 1.2.3

Google translate was better than thisUsage of this app is extremely uncomfortable. First off, when translating from English to languages that use complex characters, like 中文 (zhong wen) the written english pronuancation of the characters is not shown above or underneath the translated characters. Rather you have to click on each individual character to get the dictionary for that single character (clicking on something to get the dictionary only works in the outputed language). In addition, there is no option to immediately switch between the inputed and outputed languages. So when you have to manually change the languages, everything you wrote disappears. This is incredibly annoying if you are studying a language because you cannot see the definition for a character you inputed, since clicking on something to get the dictionary only works in the outputed language. Also, there is only 18 langauges you can choose from. So if you happen to be travelling to India for exmaple, your screwed. The only postive thing I can say about this app is the camera translation. 0 star Edit: It turns out, to automatically switch languages you just click language for the input (will have blue dot). To get the dictionary for the input you have to press the dictionary button then the input. It took me hours of usage to finally realize that. It is still fusterating that the english pronuanction is not shown underneath translated characters and the amount of languages are still limited. 2.5 stars.Version: 1.2.2

Needs to include Ukrainian and moreVery limited languages- the list is very short. It worked ok (but not great) in Mexico for Spanish but I couldn’t use it to communicate with my neighbour who came here from Ukraine..Version: 1.2.2

Confusingly badIt seems incredible that after decades of app or website design they could make something so hard to use. It won’t let you swap languages around, and once you set a pair it seems impossible to make it forget that pair… so you can’t even manually swap them. It spelling corrects the foreign words you are typing. It opens the pronunciation screen with no obvious close or back. I don’t understand how it’s possible to make such obviously hard to use apps in 2023?.Version: 1.2.2

Where’s Indonesian gone?I have this app on my iPhone and iPad. The iPhone version has Indonesian on it but it has recently disappeared from my iPad version. Can anyone explain?.Version: 1.2.3

Great translations, broken UI.This app has fantastic potential, and its translations are accurate and natural. The interface looks like it would be good, but once you try to use it you find that it’s shockingly broken. This isn’t normal from Apple, and it’s frankly a little surprising that this thing was even released in its current state. (My theory is that we’re seeing the result of 2+ years of WFH culture.) The main two issues: it’s difficult and confusing to switch languages and to make that setting “stick”. And more importantly, the “Go” button often does nothing except close the sheet into which you were typing. This button is the most important UI element in the whole app, and more often than not it just plain doesn’t work. I’m sure the app will be fixed in time, but it should never have been released as it is now..Version: 1.2.1

Standard translate app on I phoneI needed to use this on holiday and found that it’s very limited on the amount of languages it has to choose from . I would have thought it would have had Turkish language on it but sadly not. Looks like I will have to trawl other apps and reviews for future holiday/ work destinations Surely this app can be upgraded and up to speed in terms of options / settings also Very basic low key app at present.Version: 1.2.2

It’s 2022It’s 2022 and you’re showing only 12 languages someone can choose to translate when there are countless languages on planet earth. That’s ridiculous. There are far more Asian languages than just three and you don’t have ANY AFRICAN languages at all on this app. I am extremely disappointed and it is disrespectful on the 12 languages you have chosen to include as a list of languages to translate. I hope other users see my review and feel outrage as I do. I hope you change your mindset and understand there are more than 12 languages on earth. Also there are many apple based apps that seriously need an update to make the app modern with the times. I have rarely seen any apple based apps requiring an update. I don’t think you are paying attention to your brand as a whole and making everything modern..Version: 1.2.1

DisappointedI'm disappointed with the translation accuracy of the Apple translator app. It doesn't capture voice as accurately as other third-party translator apps in the market. There's a lot of room for improvement. In contrast, the Google Translate app performs much better. I hope Apple addresses these issues and works to enhance the performance of their translator app..Version: 1.2.3

Wonderful Conversion without Effective Copying CapabilitiesGreat with offline dictionaries and conversions while traveling. Trust security of app as well as processing. I desire ability to copy translated text in one click like in alternatives. Also retain more history, and place used phrases cataloged in folders will be assisting many. Ability to translate better integrated within all Apps as backend functionality improves. Offline dictionaries essential for travel and makes more sense than requiring online connection; have had issues with dictionary downloads, which now seen to disappear with any iOS update and troublesome to remember to download again, which has issues (Nov 2022). I appreciate the developers kindness in creating a more unified system..Version: 1.2.2

PoorLike others, I am trying to use Google less. However, they remain miles ahead of Apple on maps and translate. Apple Translate is occasionally ok, generally poor, and frequently comical (between English and Korean anyway.) I’ll keep it installed and watch it progress, but at the moment it needs a lot of work..Version: 1.2.2

Terrible AppTranslator developers forgot the quick language swap feature lol 🤣 If you compare this with Google Translate, this app is doing way worse. The overall experience is just poor, this is hard to use. Also there are not much language options. For example, pacific language and south east asian languages are not there. I thought if Apple is launching a new app, that means the app is ready to deliver the best experience for users. But this time App failed..Version: 1.2.2

Constantly thinks I’m offlineThe app always thinks I’m offline even when I’m clearly online. I have to download a language every time I want to translate something. It also doesn’t save what language I last used, so I have to switch it back every single phrase. Also, I really wish it could translate manga with the camera app, but it only translates from left to right instead of top to bottom..Version: 1.2.3

I can’t add another language on my iPhoneThe app comes with over 20 different languages and on my phone I am not able to select any language to use it..Version: 1.2.1

Typical sexismI use it a lot for Russian, but I'm sick of the casual sexism where every translation assumes male all the time. Translating "I..." on the assumption the 'I' is male and not even highlighting that bizarre assumption is simply incorrect. It results in an incorrect translation. This is a translation app: it's not good enough. There's also other translation errors that you can't report (mistranslating 7:30 in Russian as 8:30, which could be problematic if someone needed that for something important!!) It's almost great because the usability is really good, but the mistakes and lazy sexism let it down.Version: 1.2.2

How I experienced this appThis app isn’t very helpful, one day i was writing a Christmas card for my mum and I wanted to write it in Russian so I went on translate (on this app) and wrote “I hope you will have a lovely time” but it instead came up with “I think you will spend your time perfectly” (I speak Russian I can’t write so well though lol) and I didn’t write it down, so guys just saying this app doesn’t give you the correct words most of the times, other times it is sometimes correct, also this app is just like google translate. I hope this helps. 😄.Version: 1.2.2

Does not automatically detect languageUnlike other apps, this app does not automatically detect the language you have putted in, and there is no easy switch between the language that has being typed in and the one that’s being translated.Version: 1.2.1

Frustrating Not easy to useWhat could be a great product ruined by lack of use by the developers. Makes it nearly useless. Input spanish text which it translates well. However, touch a Spanish word for the dictionary -it doesn’t work. However touch the target English translation ( funnily enough it’s the language you know the meaning of) you get a dictionary… Useless. Try to clear text , even closing the app won’t clear it! Come on. Try using the product.. could be great it does fail on simple tasks however..Version: 1.2.2

Bad InterfaceI just want to select the source language and the destination language then have them stay set until I want to change them. A quick swap button can also be useful for translating replies. What I don’t want is a history of what I have translated. The app should always open with a blank page. If you believe we want a history/favourites option – keep it out of the way..Version: 1.2.1

LanguagesThe app is really useful however Greek needs to be added into the next update for this app. It would be really useful to all the Greeks living in Australia! Plus Greek is such a popular language how do you not already have it!!!! Please add it in!!!!.Version: 1.2.1

Poorly design appThe conversation mode is really badly designed. If I want to convert English into another language via voice, it doesn’t seem to work in a simple way. This app is really badly designed..Version: 1.2.3

Language switching is brokenSwitching language updates the "From" menu but as soon as you tap on the last translated (that was in another language), it switches back to it. So, effectively, you're stuck with whatever language you had translated from. Clicking on the top right grey X closes the keyboard, it does not erase the selection..Version: 1.2.1

UI is fundamentally flawed but Chinese is goodThere seems to be a problem with the UI not letting you pick which language to converse in, unless you use detect language mode, which is a bit unreliable. It says you can download languages and use offline, but I can’t see how. But, and it’s a big but, the Chinese to English & visa versa, translation is pretty accurate, whereas Google Translates efforts are just an endless source of amusement. Also spoken translations play much too fast..Version: 1.2.2

Poor UsabilityNo Arabic translation, and very few picture languages library support and poor offline translation library that keeps re-downloading very often. Well it is free I guess..Version: 1.2.3

It’s okayI use these app all the time for homework and it does the job but I wish it had more languages or different types of languages like French Canadian etc.So for me it’s not that bad but for a company that has Billions of dollars they can do better..Version: 1.2.3

Apple…. Come on now.I’m not sure if this is a joke. Like, ask Jeeves was more competent with translation than this. Apple my friends, you should cut your losses and take this off the AppStore because it’s honestly satire at this point. There is a well established, much more comprehensive, capable, convenient and user friendly translator app out there. I highly suggest people stick to the good old Googoo Translate 😉.Version: 1.2.3

Stop deleting my languages! Please, Apple! Languages specifically downloaded for local and offline use ARE NOT CACHE and need to NOT BE DELETED AUTOMATICALLY by the system. Really sick and tired of having to re-download my languages every time I want to use this app. 🤬.Version: 1.2.2

Good Translation, Not So Good UsabilityThis is the first translation app I’ve used that my French friend asked if I’d learned French. He said the translation was perfect. However, it is designed strangely and so many times I’ve ended up somehow deleting the text I wrote. It’s a good start but huge room for improvement..Version: 1.2

AaIt would not play.Version: 1.2.3

Not very usefulUnlike other translation apps, when translating from Japanese it won't let you enter words using rōmaji (Roman/"English" characters) - type in a Japanese word (e.g. "mamonaku") and it just displays the exact same word as the translation instead of, well, translating it. The inbuilt iOS shortcuts for this app have never worked for me..Version: 1.2.2

A bit broken. It used to work fine, and now it doesn’t, and permanently says it has no internet connection. Everything else on my phone is fine, just not this app. I’ve downloaded the language like it said, “no internet.” I’ve reset the app, “no internet.” I’ve even uninstalled and reinstalled the app. And you guessed it, “no internet.”.Version: 1.2.3

TerribleIt is the most inaccurate and wrong translator I have seen so far, it only give you one translation, mostly wrong or completely out of subject while there are often many ways to translate something. On top of that the UI is very unpractical.Version: 1.2.1

Late To The Game, Bringing Insufficient ResourcesThe name of the game for Apple, doesn’t matter if it is with network sharing, network teaming, external storage capabilities, or dozens of other technologies. Apple Inc consistently comes to the table with little to nothing to offer, and when they make their initial appearance, it is wholly insufficient. The handful of languages they bring in the offering of translate are already well covered by a number of more trusted applications. You’d think they’d try to zero in on an audience where they can become invaluable, and become…invaluable. Nope, we’re going to stand over here and be ignored by everyone, while the more main players stay more main, and we gain squat in market share. F-Idiots sit under your command Timothy, scared to be brave, intimidated to be daring. Stick with hardware, your software is losing..Version: 1.2.1

Doesn't even Translate correctly!!Tried using this with Chinese and I see no pros only cons. Went back to google after a recent translation didn't even translate correctly!! Here are the reasons I deleted the app: 1) limited languages. Wanted to translate something, but found that there are only maybe 10 languages pre loaded??? And it's missing some MAJOR world languages, why? 2) super glitchy. Tried translating a few time and it just plain didn't work. 3) incorrect translations. Tried to translate 甲鱼 and the translation voice over just spelled the English translation out instead of saying the word. Wouldn't be so bad if it's the CORRECT translation, but whatever it translated, it wasn't 甲鱼! 4) no way to see the phonetics on character based languages you are translating from. For instance, Chinese: I want to verify that the phonetics of the character set I type in are correct, but there is no way to verify, or at least no obvious way. In a language like Chinese, the phonetics are important and change the meaning entirely if they are incorrect, so being able to see that you've selected the correct phonetics is important!!!.Version: 1.2.1

Bad translationsI always get bad translations in this app,.Version: 1.2.2

Does the job but…Why no translate widget to put on the Lock Screen.Version: 1.2.3

It’s good but not many definitionsI’ve been using translate for a while and realised that many words have different meanings but a lot are missing the ones I need like tablet in the electronic sense will not have the meaning for that It also takes ages to swap to a different language (not switch the languages round). It also doesn’t recognise idioms and will translate it literally..Version: 1.2.1

No longer worksThe first time I used the app since iOS 15 update it just stopped working. I enter the text, tap go and no translation appears. I can only assume the problem is a fault with IOS 15. I see I am not the only one who has this problem. A company with Apple’s reputation and billions in profits should do more to help its customers instead of just blowing its own trumpet about how amazing their products are..Version: 1.2

Trash appYou can not switch the language over to a different language. You try and exit out, should work right???? Right??? Wrong! Literally preloads what you last had on there and it doesn’t matter how hard you try to switch the language it doesn’t work. I have tried every button and every option. Nothing works. Come on Apple step up the game a bit here. Edit: I’m not changing my rating, but I figured out how to switch languages, convoluted! You have to change the languages at the top, tap the world symbol in the lower left part of the keyboard, change the keyboard back to English, then exit out of the keyboard, go back into it, then you can type and have it translated. What?! Been laughing at this for a while now, but I had to share in case anyone else was struggling. Convinced the only 5 star reviews are from Dev’s.Version: 1.2.1

Not workingCan’t seem to get ANY languages to download. Use that Google one instead as they don’t seem to be very interested in repairing this app..Version: 1.2.3

Not very helpfulWhen using this app, i want to learn a language because i see a lot of it around on the internet by famous people, and i want to now what it means. When i wanted to learn the alphabet i typed the letter ‘a’ and then it comes up with an entire sentence and i only typed one letter! I insist that this is fixed because i am very sad and want to find an app that helps me learn a language properly..Version: 1.2.2

Can’t quickly switch between languagesThe app doesn’t have a button for alternating the language in one go. So, if you’re writing in English, and translating to Spanish, then you want to write in Spanish (e.g. from a menu), you have to manually scroll through all the languages again, select Spanish, then go to the other language and scroll through to English. This may seem like a minor point, but when in the heat of the moment e.g. the waiter is taking your order and you’re trying to translate and interpret, it’s extremely frustrating..Version: 1.2.3

Not workingI’m trying to use the translation app but it fits not work on my iPhone 11 Pro..Version: 1.2

Google Translate Must Switch NowI used this for work to translate from English to Spanish. Unfortunately it only has Spain Spanish and i need Mexican, Latino, Hispanic Spanish. They are similar but are completely different some of my Hispanic customers have no clue of what im saying sometimes because it is Spain Spanish. The app is okay i just started having problems with it today ive been using it for 8 months now but i took a picture to translate from english to spanish and it didnt work i tried updating but there was no update. so that made me look for a new translator app. i found google translate it has the Mexican Spanish and it is easy to use and the words are accurate!! You dont even have to take a picture you just put the camera on the script and it translates in mini seconds. I am so glad i dont have to struggle with the spain spanish words no more. definitely using and staying with Google Translate App!!!!.Version: 1.2.2

Bad appSo I am currently trying to speak to my gramdma from Belarus and I try to speak… like once my gram was asking me if she could come with me and I said sure but let’s get dressed and the app thought that I said shut up and get dreamed and more so DO BETTER ON THAT PLEASE.Version: 1.2.2

StoopidWhy? WHY DO I ALWAYS HAVE TO DOWNLOAD LANGUAGES? I HAVE GOOD WIFI! DOWNLOADS DONT EVEN WORK! 😡😡😡😡🤬🤬🤬🤬 Edit: Plus, I was once spamming Japanese and it just said “ I’m Sorry, I’m Sorry, I’m Sorry, I’m Sorry.”.Version: 1.2.3

A bit limitedThe fact that you can’t download additional languages is a bit frustrating, for example I need Ukrainian and I can’t get it for this app which is a bit disappointing because it’s actually a pretty nice app to use..Version: 1.2.2

Needs workThis app, generally, doesn’t feel like a native iOS app built by apple. Nevermind the awful icon - the UI is terribly confusing. There aren’t enough languages and it doesn’t fit in with the design language of any other app. I’m glad they are Atleast going after google, but this isn’t quite enough to hold a torch to it.Version: 1.2

Can’t edit previous translationsI used to really enjoy using this app. I need it on a daily basis to communicate with people that don’t speak English. On previous versions of this app you were always able to edit text that you previously translated even if you had already completed the text. It seems like on iOS 17 there’s no option to edit any text if you’ve already completed writing your translations. If I have to write something very long and then I realize there’s a mistake later I can’t go back and change it. I have to rewrite the whole phrase. It seems like something that can be an easy fix with an update, but I’m not sure if Apple even realizes it’s not available anymore so for now I have to use Google Translate..Version: 1.2.3

UI issuesThis could be a really nice app, but the states the interface gets into are confusing. Often the app somehow gets into a state where it’s in the wrong language and it’s hard to get it to the right one. It would be helpful if the app made it plainly obvious, at all times, which language is active for translation. Often it has no indication of this onscreen. And the placeholder text (“Enter Text”) changes languages when you tap on it, further confusing which language is active. It would make more sense if the placeholder text always gave you the name of the language it’s expecting. (Like, if French is active, always put “French” in the field as placeholder text.) “Enter text” is not helpful placeholder text because your users aren’t morons. You tap on that field and a keyboard shows up! What else are they gonna do? Much better to show the active language instead..Version: 1.2

App doesn’t count very wellWhen I entered seventy four in English it first offered up correctly, soixante quatorze. When I entered seventy four years old it managed, Soixante cinque ans, somehow coming up with the french for sixty five. It has also managed to come up with sixty-fourteen for soixante quarorze. Clearly something is amiss here. Haven’t checked any further as I don’t have the time to spend on it. Francis McCarthy. PS, I also noticed that it’s using the familiar of you, tu, when conversation is most likely to require vous. And more already, I’ve only had the app for 48 hours and I keep finding mistakes. I enter, Je suis un luthier, and it translates correctly, I enter, I am a luthier, and it tells me I am luthier. Perhaps it understands it as a name? I translate books and since I noticed some basic mistakes I have to check everything, sometimes from both directions, French/English or English/French. I have little confidence in this app..Version: 1.2.2

Joke of an appOnly works about 50% of the time, despite having downloaded dictionaries for offline use. It’s irrelevant anyway because when I am not in an offline situation, it just fails to display translations - instead showing a redacted stripe. I know I’m not online, because I switch over to Google Translate which works straight out of the box. Another classic junk app from Apple..Version: 1.2.3

TERRIBLE DO NOT DOWNLOADI had this translator for a long time, and it is not good. i should have let it finish sooner. sometimes when you tap the mic to speak, it will not even pick up your words and when you close the app and re-open to try again, it will still not pick up what you are saying which is SO annoying!!!!!!! it doesn’t even pick up the right words sometimes even if you are saying it clearly. very bad translator , and you should give more languages and also not just include translator from a certain region (e.g. spain, france.) work on your app, and the new update is annoying bc sometimes if you are speaking another language, it will think you are speaking something else for example let’sssy you do german to eng or vise versa if you speak english , it will think you are speaking german and if you speak german it will think you are speaking english which is frustrating so change it and maybe more people will like your app. i honestly wish i could give you CERO stars..Version: 1.2.1

NahI am using this for French, in conjunction with other apps and materials, and it does a pretty decent job of translating things well. Those are the good things. The bad things are…it’s not user friendly at all. If you’re working on something and have to get out of the app for more than about 5 mins, everything just disappears. There are no options to save anything, other than to add it to favorites, which doesn’t really work as a file. Another annoying thing is how the font jumps from normal size to giganto lettering, flipping the screen horizontally and upside down, without me touching anything but trying to scroll down ro read what I translated. When I tried to get it back to the previous screen, it somehow deleted ALL of the conversations and translations I had “stored” into favorites, and I only hit something that looked like a back-arrow. Super frustrating-I spent more time trying to figure out how the app worked, than doing my lessons. Bottom line: it mostly stinks and I deleted it. Lol.Version: 1.2.1

No Traditional Chinese!?Why don’t you support Traditional Chinese? Deleted the app right away and keep using google for now..Version: 1.2

Not enough languages. Why is there no Greek?? There are only a minimal amount of languages and it’s disappointing. I’m extremely surprised there’s no Greek considering many words derive from that language..Version: 1.2.1

TerribleWhy is there no ability to switch translation languages like on Google translate, instead you constantly have to select from the drop down menu. Also, the “x” button within the text field, one would assume when you press that that it gets rid of the text from the text box, but no. Theres another issue where when you switch languages and select the text box/field, the app switches back to the last language you translated from, god knows why..Version: 1.2

This app is just ridiculously bad they should just delete it and leave the job to google translateI really can’t emphasize how poor quality this app is. It is honestly the worse app on my phone. Not only is it not user friendly it also fails to translate certain words correctly when it’s not frozen. Examples of the app’s poor performance are as follows: can’t easily edit a mistake in the words needed translated without erasing the entire message, app will sometimes only translate part of the message (I.e., 4 words out of 20), it does not detect languages, only a handful of language are available to be translated. Literally any other translation app is better. Don’t know why I keep bothering to use this app. You’ve let me down too many times, Apple. You can spend millions on advertising the iPhone but can’t spend a few hundred dollars paying an intern to design a better app. Shame on you..Version: 1.2.3

It doesn’t workThis is the worst translate app I’ve ever used even if I did spend money it would be better than this.Version: 1.2.1

Doesn’t work at allRemoved app. Reinstalled it. Doesn’t work at all..Version: 1.2.3

NopeNot accurate, I wish I can rate it below 1 stars.Version: 1.2.3

Not seryUS sounds normal!!! Not sery..Version: 1.2.3

Favourite translations can’t be deletedSo this app automatically stores recent translations in Favourites, and when you go to swipe and delete them, they won’t go away. Not fantastic from a privacy standpoint.Version: 1.2.1

Not having Philippine translation yetI only just downloaded it and noticed it hasn’t got lots of other languages, including Filipino So it’s fairly limited right now, and no good for those who are going to other countries that don’t have their language added to this app need to work on improving it to add more languages to it.Version: 1.2.3

Update made it worseThe app was better before update. I would switch between Russian and English with ease. There was a button that allowed you to switch in the text box. They removed it. Now I have to select and scroll all the way down list for Russian. It even isn’t saved as favourite at top of list. This is time consuming when switching back and forth so much.Version: 1.2.1

I pay outrageous money for iPhones, because they are the best, right? Why hasn’t this app added more supported languages, yet? ESPECIALLY for IOS 17?! Latin should ABSOLUTELY be included, not only for personal purposes, but educational. Latin is fundamental to medical education, translation of older texts, animal studies, and so much more! And we need to go BEYOND Latin! Like dialects would be great, but that’s a lot. We could at the very least have options like Spanish (Central & South America), as well as, Spanish (Spain) as they are very different. And that’s just one example. With all of the ways to communicate globally, I would think Apple would be on the forefront of evolving this type of technology in communication. Not to mention, with all of the global migrations, be it from refugees, immigrants, people who are studying abroad, etc., it is ESSENTIAL that we are able to communicate in a sincere and meaningful manner to avoid conflict and discourse. We should absolutely be expanding on this aspect of these issues to evolve as human beings. C’mon Apple. We can do better. We have to. Especially if you claim to be the “best” and after the radiation issues in France? Or all of the many other issues your company has and will face as tech and AI continue to evolve. You can’t say your the best in security anymore. Pegasus proved that, even though your company tried to keep it quiet. And if you can’t step up? Then I fully support a new company that will..Version: 1.2.3

FrustratingI am travelling now, and I find this app endlessly frustrating. I have downloaded the Spanish and English dictionaries to translate offline, but I find that without being online it will simply hang and never actually translate. Even when online, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes it doesn’t like my VPN, then when I turn my VPN off sometimes it just doesn’t want to work anyway. Just today, it randomly told me “translation not available” when I needed it most. As I said, I have downloaded the only two languages I need - why am I being told this!? I’m on an iPhone 14 Pro, so I’m definitely not on a slower or older model. I loved the idea of a native app for translation, but I’m switching to Google it seems. When it works the content is good, but if I can’t rely on it what’s the point?.Version: 1.2.3

KeyboardThe assumed default of translating from native to foreign is weird. Manifests as keyboard characters are changed to that of language being translated from. 9/10 I'm translating from foreign to native with text copied from elsewhere. Remapping of keyboard for this use case is not helpful at all! I'm an English speaker and don't want my keyboard in Spanish when translating Spanish text to English for example.Version: 1.2.2

I hope there is a better oneLacks user friendly functionality..Version: 1.2.2

Offline languages keep being deleted by AppleThe app is good but my offline languages keep getting deleted. I understand that happening during an ios update, but at any other time it is a critical flaw. I saw another review say that the Manage Languages downloads won't work in the background, which seems to be the case, as the languages were again deleted, when I used another app. I would give this app a five star rating if not for these flaws..Version: 1.2.3

Absolute trashImagine having the free cash flow of Apple and creating something as useless as this. I remember in Intro to Programming in highschool I had to create a small translator using Java. It was better. I failed Intro..Version: 1.2.3

UnusefullGuy, before the last iOS update was a hood one with a grammas/dictionary for each word and a simple selection to trabslate. Now u removed the dictionary and puto this video and conversations. why!!!??? 😪.Version: 1.2.1

Aren’t apps supposed to work?Literally nothing happens when I type in the text to translate and press the “go” button. The text simply disappears from the screen and doesn’t show any sort of translation. It doesn’t even show the original text anymore. It’s like the app resets every time you enter text and press “go.” The text disappears and nothing happens after that. Even trying to press the microphone to speak the translation doesn’t work because the microphone button doesn’t seem to do anything either. It won’t even initiate a recording to translate. It’s like this is a dud app developed solely to take up space. I followed all the directions and enabled all the permission, and still the app is a dud. Apparently it works for some people but a lot of people can’t get it to work for any language. I’ve deleted and redownloaded the languages, and deleted and redownloaded the app itself, and still it doesn’t work. It sometimes worked on my old iPhone 7, but has never worked on my iPhone XR. Maybe it only works on the newest iPhone models? As Apple’s way of forcing us to upgrade to the latest line of iPhones. But I’m not doing that. I’ll just go back to iTranslate or Google Translate instead. Those apps may collect data on me but at least they always worked when I needed them to..Version: 1.2.1

CameraThe photo’s thing doesn’t work at all.Version: 1.2.2

Very unreliable and buggyI often have trouble with the camera translation not working, the ext translation gets stuck, the voice translation has no sound.Version: 1.2.3

I mean it’s okay-ishThere are limited language options. Also no option for Canadian French. The photo translate option is sorta helpful in some cases and sometimes it just gives me words that don’t work together..Version: 1.2.3

Very hard to use. Not user friendly. You can translate from one language to English but you can’t reverse it so you can type your response and respond in their language. Google does this and it’s extremely easy. I talk to people on other languages online a lot so I thought this would be useful. This app was just wasting storage so I deleted it maybe I will reconsider once if apple looks into improving this app. Making it easier for people to talk back and forth rather than just one way translation. I understand i could change the settings every time and go back and forth but google has a button to swap. Apple does not and when I try to change it , even tho I wrote in English it kept changing it back to Spanish and not translating..Version: 1.2.1

They don’t have Ukrainian languageOne star to this app is because they don’t have Ukrainian translation (there are over 40 million Ukrainians so you should consider).Version: 1.2.2

ProblemThe translate keep saying translation couldn’t complete said try again but press try again it still the same thing.Version: 1.2.3

RipRandomly starts working and difficult to get going again.Version: 1.2.3
